The westie's intelligence is amazing, you will find yourself talking to your westie as if you were talking to a regular family member !
The only thing small about a westie is their size.
They will protect you with their life, always sensitive to your feelings, never an "in your face" dog, but having the need to touch you with some part of their body.
I have a saying " once you have a Westie, you have been had!" and I find this is very True...
