07.16 Thursday. Day 27
18:00 hrs: Once again, a very good night of sleep last night, in spite of the high winds which raged throughout the night. Up at 0800 hrs. The weather looks again like a 10/10 winner. Left the Cove at 1000 hrs under sail. Clyde also left with me but they were heading north. As for me, I made for Prideaux Haven.
The wind was very goofy for a while then I ran out of it once I reached the lee of Mink island. Drifted for a long time then made it to M‚lanie Cove under both outboard and sail (whenever the wind was available). Prideaux Haven is as described in the sailing articles: very beautiful and also, very crowded. The skipper of the yahl 'Misty Isle' from Seattle ran a stern line ashore for me. I hope everything holds good in this anchorage. Tomorrow, I intend to head up Humfray Channel toward
Toba Inlet. Then again, we'll see. I am already running low on water so I might go by Refuge Cove instead and reprovision there before heading to the head of Toba.
All dressed up and places to go
2130 hrs. Now that I have spent a day in Melanie Cove, I must admit it is a very nice anchorage. The scenery is different and beautiful. I am anchored next to a couple from Seattle whom I had talked with in Sidney Spit last year. It's a nice feeling to meet people like that you had met at some anchorage before.
I am still not decided whether I should keep going to Toba, a matter of perhaps two weeks, then returning home to get Jules for a two-week cruise to Louisa or whether I should phone her and ask her to have Dan & her bring me my list of missing items to Comox where I would cross this week.
I sure would like to have the staysail and the dinghy, among other missing items. If the wind is right tomorrow, I might run to Squirrel Cove and call her from there. Then I would go drop anchor in Copeland Marine Park and, the first possible day, would cross over to Comox. It's a long run and the weather has to be perfect, otherwise, it's rough!
There seems to be a flotilla of no-see-um's in this cove. I might have to shut myself in and spray around. Oh well, the price you pay to be in such a nice cove. All in all, a super day. Another one and, the foreast for the weather is promising.
