07.03 Friday
Very restful night. Awoke at six but got up only at 0800. Didn't want
to miss the sight. The mountain tops were hidden into the clouds when
I awoke. Those mountains are some 5800 feet high and, to swing here at
anchor gives one the Impression of being in a cathedral. If the word to
describe Princess Louisa is 'sacred' then, 'awesome' must be the right
choice for this spot at the head of Hotham Sound.
0700 As I write this, there is a very strong Inlet wind and the boat is
swinging rather wildly. I hope everything holds up because we are at
low tide and the rudder is but thirty feet from shore. it has about
five feet of water under it.
Just tied a stern line to shore. In background, we can see the left arm of Hotham Sound where I spent two days at anchor at the head!
2000 What really surprises me, given the awe-some beauty of this spot
is that, in all the time I have been here, not one single boat has
come, at least to have a quick look around. There must have been a
traffic of at least sixty boats around Harmony Islands since yesterday
yet, not one came here at the head. The islands and the falls are
beautiful but they are all missing the best feature of the area. Not
that I mind, I came here to have peace and quiet and boy, did I get it!
I have no Idea where I'll end up tomorrow night, perhaps in the Hardy
islands. Who knows? But that's what it's all about, ain't it? God how
I wish Jules accepts to come here for at least two weeks. Another
fantastic day, although the weather was a mix of clouds and sunshine.
To bed at 2200 hrs.
