John Michael Lay was also called " Missouri Jack ." He traveled back and forth between Tennessee and Missouri, not being able to decide where he wanted to stay. John met Rachel while serving as a delegate to a church association. At the time, he was living in Knox. Co., Ky. He later settled in Elk Fork near Elk Valley in Campbell Co., TN
