John Goad
Born: Nov. 27, 1700 in Richmond, VA
Death: July 23, 1771 in Bedford Co., VA
Note:
His birth is recorded in the local parish records, as the eldest known surviving son. He was executor of his father's estate in 1734. Local records report him conveying 15 acres to John Petty on Nov. 2, 1726. 180 acres was deeded to John Hightower Oct. 3, 1727. Following is fathers death, another 80 acres were deeded to John Hightower on Oct. 21, 1738. He acquired land on the north side of the Staunton River , just across the river from what is now Pittsylvania Co. He amassed ownership of 268 acres. In his will dated July 23, 1771 , he tried to leave most of his sons some land to tie up the property at the same time. John Jr. the eldest son was left no land but the three younger sons where each devised a tract for there lifetime with reminder to a certain of there sons. Thus , William was given a tract that , upon his death, was to go to his son James. Robert was left a tract which would pass to his son, Thomas. This manner of devising his property was carried over into the disposition of the personal estate, as specified cows were left to the sons until such time the favored grandsons reached age twenty-one. John named his wife Ann Goad and left her all of the estate that she had when they had married. This suggests that his first wife and probably the mother of all his children, Catherine, had died ealier.
