Ryoko is a space pirate who was inprisoned in a cave on the Masaki shrine Tenchi Masaki,heir to the shrine,gained the key to the cave where ryoko was a prisoner and therefore rescued her. Soon after living with the Masaki's Ryoko fell in love with Tenchi and desided to stay on earth and win Tenchi's heart.

Ryoko In The Tenchi Universe

Ryoko in the Tenchi Universe has a completly differant origin. Instead of being found in cave she crashes on the earth from space because Detective first class Mihoshi shoots Ryoko's ship,Ryo-Oki,down while she was suffering over a hangover. Other wise Ryoko has the same care free seductive personality.
