Revolving Shackles

You can see in this photo the difference in the angles of the upper and lower spring. The shackle compensates for the difference in frame to axel angles. Without this type of shackle more stress would be on the springs, shackle bushings and frame due to twisting of the springs. Longer shocks are a must, new shock mounts where made to extend up through the rear floor then enclosed.

During droop the shackle opens allowing the tire to stay in contact with the ground. For the 3/4 elliptical suspension, the main leaf and the military wrap were used. The stiffer springs limit the body roll compared to buggy spring setups. The 1/4 spring in the foreground is drooping about 2" while the other 1/4 spring is compressing about 2", this is allowing 4" more travel. The shackles give about 5" more droop. While setting on flat ground the spring eyes hang below the frame 3", these springs do not rest up against the frame other then when totally compressed, this is a true 3/4 elliptical suspension. This setup works great for rock crawling and dramatically improves onroad ride, the bone jarring bumps are a thing of the past.
