    Knowing the audience to whom you are writing is essential. The Environmental-Genre Approach encompasses the social context and purpose of the paper. If a student learns to write with this approach he/she develops an awareness of audience. The Environmental-Genre Approach is closly connected to the S.C.A.R. writing process. This process should be put into practice within the classroom. Students can use their knowledge of the audience and social context to determine the direction of the paper. S.C.A.R. writing process is advantageous since it can be used for basically any genre, not just the Environmental-Genre Approach alone.
