1974 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

The 1974 Z28 was the first musclecar I ever fell in love with.  It's not as fast or as flashy as some of the other Z28s I've seen, but it has remained my favorite for more than twenty years now.  It all started in 1978 when one of my friends asked if I wanted to see his dad's Camaro.  I didn't really know what a Camaro was, so I followed him into the garage and never turned back.  There it sat, one just like the picture above, gleaming under the flourescents.  I'm sure my mouth hung open for a few minutes before I began walking around the car and admiring it.  I loved the low-slung look of the beast, so different from my father's sedans and stationwagons.  It seemed that the car had a kind of coiled, predatory look to it, like a big cat ready to spring.  Needless to say, I was hooked-- I've haven't stopped wanting one since.
Rumor or Fact?  I've heard that the unique graphics package of the '74 Z28 was a fluke.  Seems that there was some sort of screw-up with the people who printed and produced the decals, that the white parts of the decal are actually supposed to be clear.  Therefore, the only way to see what Chevrolet wanted the '74 to look like, you need to find a white one.  I've asked  Wes Stegmiller, webmaster for one of the best 2nd gen sites on the net ( Stegmiller's 2nd Generation Camaros ), if he knows anything about this.  Wes has replied that yes, he has heard the same rumor himself, and no, that he can't sunstantiate that with any facts.
