you will swim and they will fly

cast -away from this cold port
on ahead the teardrops listen
waves of them never ceasing
ever tossing this poor boat
testing if it really floats
and down under the waves
she is there
golden kelpie braids
spinning with the curent
bright as eels
she knows what she feels
dark shadows casting glances
stormy voices muted calling
shallow parts cling to you
deeper parts will suit you too
try not to feel the reason
just learn to feel the seasons
up in the air they never could tell
up in the sun they never could try
you will swim and they will fly
you will swim and they will fly

Persia Smiled

Persia smiled for the fire
had consumed her
Persia danced all the while
it persued her
after time Persia dined
at the table
all the while Persia shined
like a fable

Persia
Persia
she calls for you
she knows your name
she wants your breath
Persia
Persia

Persia knew that the time
had possesed her
Persia saw that her heart
had opressed him
after time Persia knew
she must leave
all the while Persia
tried to believe

Persia
Persia
she calls for you
she knows your name
she wants your breath

Ash Wednesday

It snowed last night
I couldn't sleep
The moon was full
full almost blue

It was cold this morning
I sat in bed
the sky was grey
grey in my room

Now it's Ash Wednesday
took a walk
found your letter
this could have been a good day
now it's Ash Wenedsday
nothing more to say

Now it's Ash Wednesday

Look

Looking over there
I see your smile
look over here
it’s only a mile
to the place where higher branches
softly shadow the ground

Look
Look over here
See what I see
Look
Look over there
see what you see

I’m Looking for a sign
to tell me I’m alright
are you looking for my sign
I’ve been looking all night
for a place where we can grow tall
I hope it can be found

Look
Look over here
See where I’ve been
Look
Look over there
See what you’ve seen

simple things are hard to find
but when you do you always know

look for awhile

look

Friday came

Friday came with no illusions
adding to my bold confusion
catching glances in a jar
in her eyes I could go far

Friday left and I had questions
empty feeling mixed intentions
finding reasons door’s ajar
in her eyes I could go far

Remember the other day
the way
you felt
and then sleep
riding over you
covered your eyes
now
Saturday is here
and you are
here too

What In The World

What in the world
is happening with you
intrested in emotion
let my sadness out on you

What in the world
are you going to do
with this hopeless devotion
you’re going through

What in the world
where can you go
what will you do
do you think I know

Where on earth
do you think i am
I just landed here
never had a plan

what in the world
will we ever do
with this happy explosion
we're going through

What In The World

Failing For An Answer

What ever did posses you
to be like that
was it in your head
or in your hat?
failing for an answer
decide to take a stand
was it in your heart
or in your hands?

saw it in your long smile
before you locked the door
it was you not me
you had to assure
now I'm left here under cold moon
hearing your words
some made you sparkle
some where absurd

what ever did posses you
to be like this
was it in your eyes
or in your kiss?

was it really open?
did we really care?
was it really over?
did we really care?

Failing for an answer
decide to take a stand
was it in your heart
or in your hands?

Failing for an answer
Failing for an answer

what ever did posses you
to be like that
was it in your head
or in your hat?

Better than the rest

Creature comforts
locked up and standing in a cage
carnival of the living
hauls those comforts up onto the stage
come see the new
come see the best
come see the you
better than the rest

Animal logic
pushing back the bars that hold us in
monkey is puzzled
swinging from the noise above the din
come see the new
come see the best
come see the you
better than the rest

and the river flows
as the flower grows
heads held high
the answer is written in the sky
creature comforts stalking you
animal logic mocking you
come see the new
come see the best
come see the you
better than the rest

Here

Entering the night
she walked on the line
I was wrapped up
tight and gone
here we were
here

On the shelf sat the issue
from pages folded over
came the words she wanted to hear
here they were
here

Under olden spells
forgotten words
harmony of voice
trance-like mood
here they were
here

Overtaking dawn
soft rays spoke of day
speaking of the answer
here they were
here

Have you ever looked at the moon on a stary night,
when the clouds have gone and left is second sight?
Did you feel the pull in the ever darkening night,
while your feet left the ground without a fight?

forever falling forward

Forever falling forward
taking a ladder to the stars
up the rungs
you’ve just begun
down you fall forward again
crash the dust is fine
crash don’t loose this time
pull the stars into your soul
don’t let them go
you’re in control
shining out your eyes
the silver rays
illuminate the night
illuminate your sight
sending shivers through the air
take a breath
breath the world
breath the universe
exhale the seconds
exhale the minutes
forever falling forward

beyond before the noise we saw
stand before the rush of heaven
call for to find the light
hey come here take this word
go away far from here stand
behind the corn fields
out in the gold fields
cold water gold water
hair as gold as the ocean’s daughter
ahead the gate is closed
key in pocket
turn around and find a new road
dawn strikes a simple chord

hey come here take this thought
travel far travel light sit
on the stumps of your focus
around the corner from second nature
across the border sits the future
the past just walked by
and now is just a moment

Take Took

she took the sunday fire
she took the strange invention
take away this voice
mute out all these thoughts
bury deep the understood
make this choice

take took so far
put this life inside a jar
make a wish upon a star
take took so far

she took the monday wire
she took the old intention
take away this voice
mute out all these thoughts
bury deep the understood
make this choice

take took so long
put the words inside a song
even though the words are wrong
take took so long

Today's The Day

The children of the Avalon
cling to the shore look to the stars
the crimson fire is burning low
today
the sea is calm

They search the heavens for a sign
a feast begins they drink the wine
the elders tell the tales of doom
tonight
the wind is gone

Shadows cast upon the rocks
the image of a time that's lost
the seven stars have come and gone
tonight
the sign has come

The children sleep before the fire
the watchman's drunk upon the spire
the wave of life has washed them clean
today
a new world starts

Today's the day

Human Nature

Sometimes it's hard to be myself
when I don't know who I am
sometimes it's hard to stay on course
when I don't have a plan

human nature is trying
to surface on my ocean
human nature is trying
when it has the notion

sometimes it's hard to see myself
when I just can't seem to look
sometimes it's hard to ride this horse
when I never read the book

human nature is trying
to help me stay above it
human nature is trying
even though I'm full of shit

sometimes it's hard to understand
when things don't go as planned
sometimes it's hard to be a man
when you have to make a stand

human nature is trying
to surface on my ocean
human nature is trying
when it has the notion

human nature is trying
to help me stay above this
human nature is trying
when I don't give a piss

Down in Tonopah

way out here in the west
where the tumbleweeds tumble
it's so easy for a man like me
to stumble on a path that's bare and rocky

down in Tonopah
they have a saying
walk to the sun
run to the stars
down in Tonopah
children are playing
laugh as they run
swinging from the bars

way out here in the dust
where the wind takes the taken
it's so hard for a man like me
to not be shaken loose from my tree

down in Tonopah
they have a saying
walk to the sun
run to the stars
down in Tonopah
children are playing
laugh as they run
swinging from the bars
down in Tonopah

Alone Before The Past Left

Take my hand, she said
as whispers echoed
from the future
take a look, I thought
at how you shine tonight
whispers turned to shadows
shadows turned to dust
future came to say it's
last regrets
alone before the past left
I turned and walked away
I thought I heard her say,
goodbye

Directions

spinning 'round
this day is sweet
earth will move
under my feet
clouds and branches
showers in the sun

directions
get lost
intentions
have costs
motivations
get tossed
communications
get crossed

this night is cool
blue blanket cozy
I'm still the fool
sniffing a posey
clouds and branches
stare at the moon

directions
get lost

Beauty soothes

Night came
day went
I just know
you’re heaven sent

Day light
night fall
I just feel
you have it all

In my arms
on my mind
the way you are
is hard to find

On my face
in my heart
the smile you bring
like priceless art

Your beauty soothes
your beauty moves me
when lights are low
you'll surely know
your beauty soothes me

Stephen Morgan La Follette

Can I Ever

she holds the lamp
I hold the door
she asks the questions
I wonder what for
she hears the song
I wrote for her
she might just like it
I wish I was sure

Can I ever
take the sign
take the look
can she ever
understand
what it took

first steps
faltered
over time
steps and motives
fall in line
last words
spoken
out of time
endless motion
brings a sign

Can I ever
look again
sing again
can she ever
undestand
where I’ve been

Can I ever

Camillia

Oh my Camillia
where have you gone
I see that your teacups
are down on the lawn
left are some bisquits
left is some tea
left empty feeling
no you and just me

Oh my camillia
camilmine
oh my Camillia
valentine

Oh my Camillia
where have you gone
I see that your basket
is down on the lawn
left are the letters
that I wrote to you
Oh my Camillia
what happened to you

River of Dreams

Swimming along with the bottom feeders
above the swanie neck
is searching for it's last meal
on the river it calls home
holding breath below the sunrise
ripples drift away
flowing towards the mouth of day
backsplashing sorrows
calling to tomorrow
diving down drenched and cool
belly full of empty thoughts
polywogs fly by
lying on the bank
preening out desires
resting for another plunge
flotsom floating freely
jetsom stuck in backwater
rain and wind will paint the night
while eyes close on today

Stephen Morgan La Follette

Stars and Flowers

Far up in space
there's a star that shines
it's the place where you come from
and everyone loves it
down here on earth
there's a flower that blooms
near the place where you live
and I really love it

Stars and flowers in your eyes
I see so very deep inside
the road ahead has opened wide
will you come and take a ride
with me
think of the things we will see
dream of the way it will be
couldn't be closer
unless you were me

stars and flowers
and you and me

Stephen Morgan La Follette

Time has it's way

Time has a way
it never has to say
the things upon it's mind
a dream may last a second
a day may last a year
I dream sometimes of second hands
I dream sometimes of yesterday

Time has it's way
it never has to pay
for long mistakes made by the blind
a dream may last a lifetime
a day may last a year
I dream sometimes of hours lost
I dream sometimes of today

Time came calling

Time came calling
hours turned to days past
ticking like my heartbeat
hands on my face
slipping away from you
and then time was up
test was over
awaiting the score
time came calling
minutes spun like webs
reaching the end at last
caught like an insect
waiting for the kill
slipping away from me
time came calling

Stephen Morgan La Follette

Ripple

creep far below the tide
seek only mermade brides
trace back the path you once knew

ripple in your head
ripple in your heart
shimmer down the empty layer

skinny up without a care
space back to words you once knew
ripple in your head
ripple in your heart
-
sinking feeling becomes the day
out of your heart out of your head
lay there and stare
the wall holds your thoughts
and then an instant gone
you yawn and say
hey it's today hear me say anyway
it's allright for tonight anyway
that was yesterday

April Snow Dream

Shadows fell like rain from a sky without a sun
I woke up this afternoon, it was after one
dreams were sticking to my hands and face
standing in the water, standing in my place
stars came down to earth, as sun erupted fire
trying hard keeping eyes open, trying not to tire
dreams were sticking to my head and my mouth
sitting in the April snow, sitting down and out
another night came too soon, another day went too fast
dreams still sticking in my mind, could they ever last

Stephen Morgan La Follette

Grey december evening rain

In Grey december evening rain
on the road his thoughts came fast
mud and muck wind was cold
on the hill he saw the stream over bank
cracking earth was moving under foot
moving slow he came away from there
thinking loud he came away from there
in grey december evening rain

The Truth That Is Today

there's a hole in my life where the world gets in
like the hole in my shoe it's a little thing
I'm afraid to look out of the hole I've made
I'm afraid of the things that I might see
but I always do anyway
I can't seem to get away
from the truth that moves my soul
like the sole in my shoe it keeps me standing
I'm afraid to stand up for too long
I'm afraid I might fall over
but I always do anyway
I just can't seem to get away
from the truth that is today

Over Inner

Here we are
here we will be
here is the answer
Over inner
over inner
come for dinner
with the sinner
he’s a winner
he’s a Prince
Here we come
here we will be coming
here is the question
Over inner
over inner
come for dinner
with a winner
he’s the sinner
he’s a Prince
