Summary: Can Aphrodite keep Lois & Clark together after a major fight? Will Lois finally say yes to Clark’s marriage proposal?
Author’s Note: For those of you who are fans of Hercules, the Hercules character does not appear in this story. Iolaus makes a cameo in this story but essentially this is an Aphrodite story. This sweet love story takes place 2 years after the story “Soulmates”. In Soulmates, Clark has just met Lois and Aphrodite convinces Clark that Lois is his soulmate. In Soulmates Part II, 2 years have passed and Clark proposes to Lois..read the rest of this story to see what happens next.
CHAPTER 1
Lois promised to meet Clark in Centennial Park. Clark whistles as he feels the engagement ring in his pocket. Tonight, I will propose to Lois and ask her hand in marriage. Aphrodite was right..Lois does love me..she loves me for my soul..and in many other lifetimes, we’ve always been in love..soulmates..lifetime after lifetime..Lois is my soulmate. She is the only one who can make me feel complete. Clark spots Lois in the park for he can hear Lois’ heartbeat quicken.
Lois drives her jeep to Centennial Park. I wonder why Clark wants me to meet him here? We usually do all our late night talking at the Daily Planet office. Besides there’s this deadline coming up for the morning edition..really sometimes Clark can be so strange, but then again..he is the best partner I’ve ever had..Lois’ breath quickens as he sees Clark waiting for her at the park bench.
“Lois..it’s so good to see you..thanks for meeting me here at such short notice..” Clark starts anxiously.
Goodness gracious Clark looks as nervous as a deer caught in headlights..what ever could be going on? He does look handsome in that suit..why is he all dressed up? And why are we standing in the dark this late at night in the middle of a park? Lois admires Clark’s new suit and so to break the ice, Lois begins to talk.
“So, Clark..what’s going on?” Lois notices that Clark has his left hand in his pocket and Clark is fidgeting..now she KNOWS something big is about to go down.
Clark gives Lois a loving look as he begins “Lois..you know how much I love you..and how much you mean to me..”
Lois interrupts Clark and takes Clark into her embrace as she gives Clark a fierce kiss. Lois had always been the independent one and “take-charge” Lane was just another nickname she had picked up besides “Mad Dog” Lane which expresses her competitive edge. She shows Clark her love for him by kissing him and then she hoarsely whispers into Clark’s ear “I love you too, Clark..”
Clark cups Lois’ face and brings her face up to his and he whispers “I love you Lois and I want to marry you.”
Clark begins to kneel down and profess his love to Lois “Lois, will you marry me?”
Lois feels her cheek where Clark had cupped her face. Somehow his touch was familiar to her for another man had cupped her cheek in just the same manner. It happened right before she lost her memory. Lois keeps rubbing her cheek as she frantically searches her still somewhat fractured memory..and then it came to her..SUPERMAN! How can two men have the same exact touch..unless they were the same man! Suddenly a feeling of anger burst through Lois’ mind as she puts two and two together..
Lois hears Clark saying “…so Lois will you marry me?” Clark candidly looks up at Lois awaiting her positive reply as Clark is already fumbling through his pockets for the engagement ring.
Lois rubs her cheek where Clark had just cupped her face as the awful realization dawns on Lois that Clark is Superman “So,Clark when were you going to tell me that you’re Superman..when our kids start bouncing off the walls?”
Taken completely by surprise, Clark drops the engagement ring box on the street as he readily contemplates Lois’ reaction. Never in his life did he imagine that Lois would find out about his secret identity in this manner..
Lois continues to speak “No, I will not marry a liar” Lois proceeds to walk out of Clark’s life forever.
Clark rushes up to Lois’ side and asks “Lois, how did you know?”
Lois pushes Clark away “I don’t want to talk to you, Clark…you didn’t trust me with your secret..we’re not supposed to have secrets from each other..we’re best friends..I’ve got to get away from here..I need air..”
Clark tries desperately to hold on to Lois for he knows that if he lets her go she will walk out of his life forever “Lois, I’m so sorry I didn’t tell you sooner..I was afraid that you wouldn’t love me..because I’m an alien..I didn’t want to lose you..”
Lois looks Clark in the eyes “I don’t care if you’re an alien Clark..did you think I was so shallow..no what hurts most are all the lies..that you didn’t trust me enough..to tell me that you’re Superman..I had to figure it out for myself..how do I know if you’re not hiding other secrets? How can I ever trust you again?” Lois pulls herself away from Clark’s grasp and with tears blinding her Lois runs to her jeep and drives away.
Dumbfounded, Clark sits down on the park bench in shock as he replays moment by moment the last few minutes. What went wrong? How did she figure it out? How long has she known? Clark buries his head in his hands as he begins to weep for his lost love. She now knows I’m an alien and now she doesn’t love me anymore..and I’m going to spend the rest of my life alone..a life without Lois..a life without anyone.
CHAPTER 2
Aphrodite appears in a sparkle of pink to comfort the grieving Clark. Clark is so grief stricken that he doesn’t even notice Aphrodite’s appearance. Aphrodite strokes Clark’s shoulder. Clark begins to weep all over Aphrodite’s shoulder.
“Aphrodite..she hates me..it’s because she knows I’m Superman..my soulmate has left me, I’m all alone..ow..hurts..my whole body aches..” The strongest man in the world weeps for the loss of his soulmate.
“Sweetpea..she doesn’t hate you..Lois loves you..it has nothing to do with the fact that you’re an alien from Krypton..she said no because you didn’t tell her the truth..” Aphrodite says softly.
“The truth! She knows the truth and now she’s gone..in this life Aphrodite it’ll be impossible for me to find love from Lois or anyone else..who wants to marry a freak?”
“Clark..you’re not a freak..don’t you remember our conversation..about soulmates?”
“Dite..that was 2 years ago..the day I first met Lois..a day I will never forget..”
“Clark, did you ever tell Lois about that day?”
“No..I..I told her that I love her..”
“Clark did you ever tell Lois anything about who you are..you know about Superman?”
“Well..no..I was afraid she’d find me disgusting..you know like Lana..”
“Oh ye of so little faith..I told you to trust Lois..to trust Lois’ love..Lois is hurt because you didn’t trust her enough with the truth..that’s like telling Lois that she is shallow! Don’t you see Clark, Lois ran away because she loves you..she couldn’t stand for you to see her hurt..she’s not disgusted..”
With a wave of her hand, Aphrodite transports Clark to Lois’ apartment. Lois is spilling her heart to Lucy on the phone.
“Lucy..Clark asked me to marry him and I said No”
“WHAT! Why? Clark’s such a sweet man! He’s such a catch.”
“I love Clark with all my heart, Lucy. But he’s also a liar..you know what a track record I have with liars..Claude for one”
“Lois..if anything ..Clark is not like Claude..he’s not going to betray you by..Lois..would Clark ever be unfaithful to you like Claude? Can you picture Clark doing anything remotely adulterous? Lucy counters.
“Well..no..for the most part..Clark is such a boy scout..it’s just that he kept such a big secret from me..Lucy..you’ve got to promise me not to breathe a word of this to Mom or Dad..or anyone else for that matter..”
“Promise..sis..so what’s the big secret?”
“Clark is Superman. When Clark cupped my face, he touched me in the same manner as Superman..that’s how I made the connection..all those times Clark left me in the middle of a date..Clark always had some lame excuse..I mean once we were in the middle of eating lamb stew and Clark had hired this guy to serenade us with a violin..it was so romantic..we were just getting serious back then..suddenly Clark left saying something about having to return a video..”
“Lois, can you hear yourself..can you imagine Superman of being dishonest? Clark is not Claude..you’ve got to forget about Claude and move on.”
Lucy hesitates on the phone for a moment and then asks Lois a more serious question:
“Lois, are you sure it’s not because Clark is an alien..is that the real reason why you ran away?”
Lois looks at the phone with shock that her own sister would ask her such a question. Then an awful thought runs through Lois’ mind “Oh no Lucy, you don’t think Clark thinks that I left him because he’s some kind of freak..like Lana..”
“Lois, you talked about how his touch is like Superman’s then you yell at Clark by saying You are Superman..then you keep your hand on that cheek and you leave the park..what else could poor Clark be thinking..he thinks you’re like Lana..”
Lois subconsciously rubs her cheek as tears run down her face “Oh..no..Lucy..you can’t be more wrong..I love Clark..I told him that..I didn’t care he was Superman..oh Lucy..I still love him..you don’t think he kept the secret from me because he thought I would react like Lana do you?”
“Sis, think of this from Clark’s point of view..you find out he’s an alien then you run away as if a monster was chasing you away..you made Clark feel like an alien monster..”
“Oh..Lucy..you’re right..what have I done? I was mad at Clark because he didn’t tell me the truth..Luce..I’m a reporter..I uncover the dirtiest secrets and write about it on the front page..I live for the truth Sis..surely Clark knows that..we uncover the truth together..”
Lucy begins to understand the situation “So you think that because you and Clark uncover the truth together that he should have been truthful to you about who he is? Right Sis?”
“That’s right..I’ve got to fix this Luce..how do I make Clark believe that I love him? What do I do?”
Aphrodite closes the window.
“See..Clark..she loves your soul..Lois truly is your soulmate..she is not repulsed by you or your touch..I told you that from the very first day..I’m the Goddess of Love..I’m never wrong when it comes to the soulmate gig..remember I told you that..”
“You’re right, Aphrodite..Lois loves me..it was all my fault..I forgot how much Lois respects the truth..she dumped Claude when he lied to her..” a lightbulb goes off in Clark’s head as he realizes that Lois was simply dumping him because he didn’t tell Lois the truth about being Superman..
Clark gives Aphrodite a big hug “Thanks Aphrodite..for everything..I’ve got to go to Lois and fix this.”
Aphrodite whispers closely into Clark’s ear “This time, Sweetpea..tell her everything..about Superman..about how you got your powers..and most of all Sweetpea tell her how much you love her and how sorry you are..” Aphrodite materializes a pink box filled with pink chocolates “Oh..don’t forget to give her this..on second thought also don’t forget to give her this” Aphrodtie materializes pink roses “Never fails to win a girl’s heart”
Before Clark could make a move, Aphrodite decks Clark out in a handsome pink tuxedo..and Aphrodite giggles “Oh..you are such a cutie in that tux..no girl can resist you..certainly not Lois..” Aphrodite transport a very pink Clark straight to Lois’ apartment.
Lois is still talking to Lucy when she sees Clark appear out of nowhere in a ridiculously pink tuxedo holding a pink box of chocolates in one hand and a bouquet of pink roses in the other.
CHAPTER 3
Lois looks at Clark with such surpise that she drops the phone on the ground. “Clark..ah..I was just thinking about you..I was just telling Luce..”
“Lois..I came here to apologize..sorry about that dramatic entrance..I’ll explain about that later..gosh..I have so much explaining to do..it’s my fault I should have told you about being Superman sooner..can you forgive me?” Clark’s brown eyes look like those of a puppy begging its master for forgiveness that Lois’ heart melts instantly..
“Clark, I’m sorry I ran away..I’m not Lana..you know..you didn’t tell me the truth…that’s why I felt so hurt..I had to leave..why didn’t you tell me sooner about your secret identity..I promised Luce I wouldn’t mess this up..so I’ll fess up..I love you..Clark..I don’t care if you are Superman..I don’t care if our kids will bounce off the wall..I love it when you fly..at least now I understand why I loved Superman and you..how dare you not tell me!”
“Lois..I didn’t tell you because I was afraid..afraid you’d laugh at me..afraid you’d think me a freak..also I was afraid for your safety..afraid for the safety of my parents..Lois..if anybody put together the fact that I’m Superman..everyone I leave would be in danger..so I told myself that I couldn’t tell you because I wanted to protect you..but as time went on and I realized how much I loved you and how much you loved me..Clark..not Superman..I came to realize that I was being a coward in not trusting you with the truth..I’m so sorry for being such a coward..can you ever forgive me, Lois?”
“Oh Clark..I was so angry with you for all the dumb excuses..no no make that lies..you told me whenever you had to leave all of a sudden.. I was angry with you for making a fool out of me..all the times I told you how much I loved Superman..when all along that was you…I felt that you were making fun of me..mocking me as it were..when I figured out that you were Superman..I felt that you had lied to me..just like Claude..but now I understand..just like I’m NOT Lana..I love you for what you are inside..I love your heart, Clark..despite your cowardice..you had honest intentions..so I forgive you..I forgive you because I love you..”
“Oh Lois..I understand too just like you are NOT Lana..which is a relief..I am not Claude..well not anymore..not from now on..I will never keep a secret from you again..definitely I will never be unfaithful to you the way Claude was..” Clark thinks of Aphrodite’s advice as he proceeds with his next sentence..Lois..I have never told you this..but I have loved you from the very first day I met you..the moment you walked into Perry’s office..your vivacious nature..your feisty voice..I fell in love with you that instant..my soul felt a connection with yours that I’ve never felt with Lana..”
“Clark..I never told you this because I didn’t want you to get a swelled head especially since I was the senior journalist..but I fell in love with the hick from nowheresville..I knew the moment I saw you that you would never be unfaithful to me..you seemed so pure..so naïve..I knew in my heart that you were a one-woman man..I fell in love with your pure heart Clark..looking at you..being with you refreshed my soul..reminded me that there were still good people out there..and then when you acted like such a boy scout..you pulled my chair out for me..you were so polite..you held open the door for me..you never took advantage of me..I guess it kind of makes sense now that you are Superman..that makes you a Super boy scout..especially in that Superman outfit..which by the way Kent..leaves little to the imagination..not much cover under those red shorts..and leotards..you know..” Lois seduces Clark..Clark blushes to his hairline. “I sure would like to get to know you better Superman..”
Clark “On our wedding night, I’ll show you a really good time..I promise you that Lois..” Clark got on his knees again and this time he earnestly asks “Lois will you marry me?”
“Yes, Clark..I will marry you.”
Clark gives Lois an even bigger kiss than he gave before. Lois tries to take off Clark’s shirt as Clark hesitates and says “On our honeymoon, dear..”
“Okay, Clark..ever the Boy Scout..that’s why I fell in love with you..”
Clark nuzzles his head on Lois’ shoulder “I can’t wait to find out what it’s like to be with you..it will be heavenly”
Lois shoots up her head and gives Clark a puzzled look “Clark, are you trying to tell me you’re a virgin?”
Clark once again blushes to his hairline as he explains “Lana and I never got that far. She never wanted to touch me..because I was an alien..I always thought that I repulsed girls..besides I wasn’t so sure that I wouldn’t accidentally hurt anyone with my powers..besides I tend to sleep in the air..and I..”
Lois covers Clark’s mouth as she realizes that he is babbling again..Lois kisses Clark and then she says “I have never wanted so much to be with a man than I want to be with you..I want to touch every square inch of you..I want to get to know you very very well..I think sleeping in the air is very sexy..if it’s anything like dancing in the air was with you..I don’t give a hoot what Lana thinks..I know you would never harm a hair on my head..after all the times you’ve saved my life..Clark, I trust you with my life..I think Clark, you are the sexiest man in the world..and if I have to marry you to get into bed with you so be it!” Lois continues kissing Clark to shut him up.
Clark gulps for air and says “Lois, you’ve made me the happiest man in the world..for the first time in my life, I feel like I belong..no longer do I feel like the outsider with superpowers looking in..you’ve made my world complete..all I’ve ever wanted is to be with you Lois..to be your husband..and be the father of your children..no place else I’d ever rather be than to be with you..I love you, Lois..”
Lois looks into the chocolate puppy brown eyes of Clark “ I love you too Clark..our destiny is to be together..you are my soulmate..the other half of my half..and YOU make my soul complete..you are my better half..”
Clark practically repeats the same mantra looking deep into Lois compassionate loving eyes “You, Lois, are the other half of my soul..you are my soulmate..YOU are my better half..”
Clark is startled as he swears that he can hear a shrill giggle..followed by “Look Sweetcheeks..those soulmates are together again..it’s just so KEWL..” Clark shakes his head as he thinks “nah..couldn’t be Aphrodite..could it?” Just in case it is the ditzy Goddess of Love, Clark mouths the words “Thank you from all my heart” to the Greek Goddess of Love..for she’s never wrong when it comes to the Soulmate gig.
Epilogue
Hercules gives Aphrodite an incredulous look as Iolaus finishes telling him how Lois and Clark first fell in love. Lois hands Hercules the rest of the instructions on how to care for the twins.
“Listen, Hercules, I’m grateful that you and Iolaus are willing to babysit the twins..Clark and I haven’t been out of the apartment to have a weekend alone since the twins were born..”
“Don’t worry Lois..Iolaus and I love to babysit..I’ve got several children of my own..I’ve had many children throughout the centuries..so I can handle twins..besides my wife will be over with our latest set of twins and my twin can have a play date with your twins..they can even share toys..”
Lois gives Hercules a worried look “Yeah, well my twins float and they already have their father’s powers..”
Hercules reassures Lois “My twins have some of my blood running through them..I would think the powers of Zeus will protect them..they are after all one quarter Olympian..so it’ll be the one quarter Olympians versus the one quarter Kryptonians..it’ll be an interesting play date indeed” Hercules’ azure eyes twinkle with mischief.
Clark returns from the bedroom with one of the twins in his hands as he exclaims “Honey are you sure you want to leave the twins behind..I mean this twin literally floated towards me while you two were talking!..What if he floats out the window..what will the neighbors say?”
Hercules chuckles “My oldest son used to float away too..my daughter used to conjure up real purple-dotted dinosaurs..the FBI visited and wrote it up as an unexplained extraterrestial visit..I guess she takes after Evander..my nephew..don’t worry Clark..I know how to take care of children with special abilities..Evander used to float away all the time..but when he got hungry..he always knew where to float back! Wait until you have a household full of floating children..now that’s challenging but fun!”
Iolaus joins in on the fun “Hey Herc..remember when Evander turned all the villagers into purple-dotted people..everyone thought they had a weird case of the measles..”
“Yeah I remember how you had to explain to your girlfriend how you ended up with purple dots all over your face..I couldn’t stop laughing..” Hercules muses.
“Yeah..well it wasn’t that funny Herc..it was kind of embarrassing…I swear sometimes you encouraged Evander..”
“But then I remember the time when your daughter made your clothes disappear in the middle of last year’s New Year’s Party..your daughter said “Daddy has a dirty shirt..let me change it for you..and the next thing you knew you were standing in front of your boss stark naked..she really zapped you good..now THAT was funny..you should have seen the look on his face..Oh Lois..it was to die for!” Iolaus starts to double over in laughter holding his side as it hurts so much.
“Oh yeah..not as funny as the time..Iolaus’ hair turned green..in front of HIS boss..now here’s a story..”
“I’m sorry Hercules..but Clark and I will be late for our dinner reservations if we don’t leave now..I believe you when you say you can take care of our floating twins..I know who to go to in the future when our future kids act up..”
Clark caught that tone in Lois’ voice as he mouthed the words “Future kids..Lois is there something you want to tell me?”
Lois looks dismayed “Oh Clark..I was waiting for tonight to tell you..I’m having another set of twins..”
“Lois..really..” Clark twirls Lois around “Hercules, Iolaus..I’m going to be a father AGAIN!”
“I’m SO HAPPY..”
Iolaus elbows Hercules in the ribs “Clark won’t be so happy when his kids start to undress him in front of HIS boss!”
Hercules whispers “Wait until they become teenagers..yup..Lois and Clark have a lot to learn about gifted children who float, fly or zap..they’ve got A LOT to learn!” Hercules and Iolaus let out a big guffaw..as they congratulate Lois & Clark…
