The Magical Moment of love
Disclaimer: The characters of Lois and Clark do not belong to me. No money is being made from this story. This story is written for entertainment purposes only. The lyrics are from the song “For a Moment like this” by Kelly Clarkson, the winner of American Idol 2002.
Summary: Lois and Clark share a very romantic kiss on New Years Eve as they describe how strongly they feel for each other during that kiss. This is my first romantic fanfic and I never realized how hard it was to write romance. It’s a fun subject but hard to describe so many emotions going on at once! Here is my amateurish attempt at this genre.
Author’s Note: I want to post this WAFFY (warm and fluffy feeling) story before New Years Eve. I’ve been working on this story this past week trying to make the New Year deadline. Unfortunately my computer crashed and I was offline for 2 days so now I’m trying to hurry this story along. I do want to comment that this has been a very fun story to write. I just wish I had more time to spend on it. I like wallowing in my own sap!
NEW YEAR’S EVE PARTY
Everyone watched with baited breath as the ball would start coming down in Metropolis Square. “Pretty soon..ladies and gentlemen..it will be the New Year!” The announcer quickly looked at the big digital clock on Metropolis Tower as hundreds of people milled about the Square to count down the remaining seconds to the New Year.
Men and women of all races stood in the freezing cold to watch the famous Metropolis ball come down. The announcer, a youthful looking 70 year old who used to have his own Bandstand show, rubbed his frozen hands together for warmth, and looked directly into the camera to begin the countdown for the New Year.
Meanwhile,at the Metropolis nightclub, Lois and Clark stood along with hundreds of others and watched a huge TV screen showing the Metropolis ball as it slowly made its descent down to Metropolis Tower, one of the tallest buildings in Metropolis to ring out the old Year and ring in the new. Clark held Lois in his arms as they counted down with everyone else in the dance room the coming of the New Year. As his arms wrapped around Lois’ body, Clark could feel Lois’ body trembling with excitement. Clark momentarily rested his head on top of Lois’ and was able to inhale the sweet scent of jasmine enveloping Lois’ curly dark hair. And to think Lois was so worried about her hair, Clark looked down at his girlfriend and thought that she was the most beautiful woman in the whole ballroom. Although the rest of the ballroom was busy staring at the TV monitor, Clark only had eyes for Lois.
Clark couldn’t believe that he would be so lucky to have such a wonderful woman as Lois in his life. The past two years with Lois passed like a blur for Clark. During these past two years, he had fallen in love, told his secret to Lois and most importantly, Lois had fallen in love with him despite the fact that he was not totally human. Clark breathed in a sigh of pure happiness as he looked down on Lois’ head. Clark turned Lois around to face him. He cupped her face and noticed how bright Lois’ eyes were and how filled with love and anticipation those brown chocolate eyes were.
The tension and excitement as the ball neared the end of its descent was palpable in the air. Everyone had their eyes glued on the giant TV monitor watching the Old year end with a bang. Well everyone except Clark who had his eyes on Lois as he watched how beautiful her body was. From his height advantage, Clark noticed the roundness of Lois’ shoulder as she wore a shoulderless gown, he shyly looked down at Lois’ cleavage and wished Lois had chosen a less revealing dress, but still he could outline in his mind the valleys and peaks of Lois’cleavage, and that odor which was only Lois wafted into his nostrils giving him the most heady emotion that he felt absolutely dizzy as the world spun momentarily around him. Never in his life had Clark felt anything like this for anyone. Just touching Lois was having an effect on him. Clark decided to take a deep breath to control himself for he didn’t want to have an accident in public as his pants felt just a tad too tight for him. It would be embarrassing if anyone noticed how hard Clark was getting and how much he was sweating in this hot and stuffy room. Clark smiled to himself and thought for the umpteenth time how lucky he was to have Lois in his life.

“Lois..aren’t you excited? It’s almost midnight and it’s almost the next year!” Clark exclaimed as he looked deeply into Lois’ eyes.
“Oh Clark this is the best New Year’s Eve party ever!” as she stared into those soulfull brown eyes of Clark’s.

The moment the ball descended the New Year flashed in neon color lights of bright yellow as the world celebrated the coming of a New Year which for everyone around the world meant a new beginning, a new slate, a chance to start over and make things right, a time to make resolutions, a time of eternal hope and love.
Exclamations of “Happy New Year!” could be heard all over the city as strains of “ Auld Lang Syne” filled the air. People hugged each other. Others toasted their champagne glasses to the New Year. People blew their party favors and whistlers. Yet others drunk gallons of champagne as they repeatedly toasted each other “Happy New Year”. A festive time was had by all. Balloons were released from the ceiling and came raining down on the partygoers as everyone wished each other a Happy new Year.Complete strangers kissed each other just for the joy of it.
Despite all the noise of the celebration of the hundreds of people in the dance room, Lois and Clark had their eyes locked on each other and were in their own world. Clark could feel Lois’ soul calling out for him and vice versa. It was as if Lois was a lighthouse in a sea storm and all Clark could see was Lois as the lighthouse lighting the way into his heart. Oblivious to the joyous hoopla around them,. Clark lowered his head, looked into Lois’ eyes and gave Lois a deep long kiss. His tongue tried to seek entry into Lois’. For Clark, being with Lois here on New Year’s Eve, dreaming about this kiss and now actually experiencing this kiss with Lois was pure heaven on Earth. Clark’s whole body tingled all over with a maelstrom of emotions: joy, wonder, awe, and love. He couldn’t believe that Lois would love an alien like him.
All his life all Clark ever wanted was to belong. Sure he had the unconditional love and support of his Kansas parents: Jonathan and Martha Kent, but he also wanted to have a wife and family of his own. Something that would make him feel tied to this Earth. Clark was tired of feeling like an outsider looking in—trying so hard to just fit in. The moment Clark saw Lois he knew that she was “the one”. And now all of Clark’s dreams were coming true as he had Lois in his arms kissing him. He’d waited all his life for this moment—for this kiss—this kiss of love that would forever bond him to Earth..to a place where he felt he belonged—in Lois’ arms..in her embrace..in this moment..this kiss.
Clark invested all his soul and energy into this kiss. Every time their lips touched and their tongues came together, Clark would feel a tingle of electricity race through his body. He had never felt this way about anyone before—not even Lana Lang—his girlfriend from high school. With Lana, the moment she found out that he was an alien with alien powers, Lana broke up with Clark repulsed by Clark’s alien origins.
After Lana, Clark was reluctant to have another romantic relationship. As he traveled the world after college, he encountered many beautiful women in foreign countries but he shied away from relationships because he knew that once a girl found out that he was an alien, no girl would ever want to love him. He remembered how hurt he felt when Lana rejected him. He asked himself the following question over and over again: Will I always be alone? Will I ever find the love that my parents share? The kind of love that Martha and Jonathan Kent has in their long marriage?
Jonathan still loves Martha even after many long years of marriage. Now in their fifties and both having grey and white hair, Jonathan still holds Martha’s hand in public. Once a week, they still have romantic dinners together in Smallville at their favorite Italian restaurant where they would order their favorite pasta and just be together. When Clark was little, his parents would bring him along to eat pasta and to this day, Clark loves Italian pasta. Although as a baby, Clark loved to throw the pasta around the restaurant and gurgle quite happily.
All through the years of Clark’s childhood, the Kents had a happy home. His parents would cuddle together in front of the TV watching their favorite shows together after a hard day’s work on the farm. Clark would cuddle in between his parents trying to get their attention whilst Martha and Jonathan only had eyes for each other until Clark used his superstrength to lift the sofa they were on to get his parents’ attention. Clark sighed as he pondered his future.
Could an alien like me find someone to love? Will anyone ever love me and accept me even though I’m different? Clark asked himself these heart wrenching questions over and over again until he met Lois Lane..Before meeting Lois Lane, Clark had resigned himself to the fact that he might be alone for the rest of his life. After all what life could an alien like himself have? His question was answered as he looked into Lois’ eyes and saw the love and acceptance there..Clark had hope that maybe just maybe..he could find the happiness that his parents shared…And now with Lois..that dream of love and a chance at a normal family life might just come true.
At the stroke of midnight, the partygoers were all celebrating the New Year and Clark held on to Lois for dear life. Lois was the anchor in the storm of life..the anchor that kept his heart from drowning in a sea of loneliness. Clark savoured every moment of this kiss with Lois..the way a thirsty traveler savours the taste of water after a long journey in the desert. This was the longest kiss Clark ever had with anyone. Clark knew he was Superman and he could hold his breath for twenty minutes..but what about Lois..it seemed as if the kiss was never ending..and he felt Lois respond to his kiss..he felt Lois never wanted to let him go..As they kissed, he felt Lois’ arms tighten around his waist..no one had ever kissed Clark with so much love and so much passion. No one was as passionate as Lois Lane. The kiss continued until Clark felt as if he were melting into Lois’ soul. This kiss was definitely different than the one from Lana Lang, the only other girlfriend he ever had and boy was that kiss a federal disaster!
He still remembered his first kiss with Lana Lang. It was exhilarating as Lana Lang put her lips on his. Then Clark feeling happy that Lana “loved” him, told Lana that he was an alien from Krypton. Instantly, a look of disgust and loathing crossed Lana Lang’s face as she instantly repelled herself from Clark’s arms and bolted from his presence. Shattered and heart broken, Clark decided never to have another relationship again. And then Lois Lane walked into his life..more like stormed into his life. Clark smiled as he thought back to that fateful day..the day that would change the rest of his life..the day when Lois Lane claimed his heart once and for all..the day she claimed his soul…Clark shook his head as he mused how different Lois was from Lana.
Lana was afraid of his powers. She wanted to live a normal life in Smallville. She wanted to marry a totally normal guy to lead a normal life. Once Lana found out that Clark was an alien, Lana left Clark thinking that a normal life with an alien would be impossible. Lana was afraid that Clark might inadvertently hurt her with his heat vision or that he might inadvertently fall on her while he slept in the air. No, Lana was not ready to live with an alien. Who knows what other powers Clark might have and may not control? What kind of freakish children would they have? Would the government come and take her children away to conduct experiments? No, Lana could not and would not continue a relationship with a freak like Clark.
Clark knew immediately that telling Lana his secret was a big mistake. The moment he told her, her eyes filled with fear and apprehension. When Clark tried to kiss her, she was repulsed by him. She recoiled from Clark’s touch as one might recoil from a snake or a scaly reptile. Clark tried to convince Lana that he was still her Clark but Lana would have nothing to do with it. Lana avoided Clark at all costs and broke up with Clark. Clark tried to restore their friendship but it was to no avail. Lana just didn’t want to have anything to do with an “alien freak”. What hurt the most was that Lana had been Clark’s best friend and confidante throughout high school but that was when Lana thought Clark was just an average Joe. Lois’ reaction to Clark’s secret was completely different.
Lois loved Clark unconditionally. Granted Lois was angry at Clark for having kept the secret for so long..but Lois was not afraid of Clark’s powers or repulsed. As a matter of fact, Lois welcomed change of any sort. And Lois was not the least bit deterred by the fact that he was an alien. To Lois, Clark was the most humane..most loving..most compassionate person she had ever met. With Lois, Clark finally found someone who accepted him..who made him feel like he belonged..who made him feel loved. Here they were in each other’s arms..dancing..and staring at each other with eyes filled with love and anticipation. For Clark, he had finally found someone who would accept him for who and what he is..someone who would love him unconditionally..someone who would marry him and share her life with him. As the Metropolis ball finally reached its destination and the clock struck exactly midnight, Clark experienced the most wondrous kiss of his life as his lips met Lois’, currents of pure joy pulsed through Clark’s body as he reveled in the wonder of pure love...awed by the splendour of Lois’ love for him..humbled by the sheer magnitude of the moment when the woman of his dreams returned his love in that kiss.
For this moment in time..all Clark could experience was the pure joy of this kiss. He allowed the kiss to transport his rational mind to another realm..another dimension as he was swept off his feet by the passion of the kiss..it was as if time stood still. Clark did not think he was capable of rational thought at this moment it was as if he was caught in a whirlwind of emotions over which he had no control. It was like riding a storm at sea as a multitude of emotions washed through his senses as he continued to kiss Lois at the stroke of midnight.Clark felt his emotions spiral out of control as he kissed Lois.
Nothing in the world existed but Lois. Not the people in the dance room. Not the celebrations going on around him. Even with superhearing,all Clark could hear was the beating of Lois’ heart and the..and the sound of his own blood pulsating through his ears as well as the feel of Lois’ lips against his. Clark was experiencing perfection—a single perfect moment that he had waited for all his lonely life.. a chance to be with the one he loved.. This was..the moment he’d been waiting for all his life..his whole life wrapped up in this moment of time..wrapped up in this kiss.
Slow dance music filled the air as couples swayed to and fro to the newest romantic ballad. The stereos calmly played this romantic ballad for all to hear. Lois and Clark continued their kiss and to sway to the slow soft love ballad playing in the background. To Clark, the words from this song rang so true. He had waited all his life to find someone who would accept him as he was..someone to love..someone to share his life with..someone to have a family with..that someone special..all his life, Clark dreamed of this perfect moment where he could kiss the woman he loved without fear of rejection. For once, Clark was not the outsider looking in, but he was ONE with his love..ONE with Lois in this kiss.

Clark kissed Lois with all his heart because he had waited all his life for this moment in time. The kiss made Clark feel as if he were blending into Lois’ soul. A feeling of complete contentment and utter peace overcame Clark as he felt for the first time in his life a feeling of utter and deep belonging—acceptance. Unlike Lana, Lois was not repulsed by Clark’s alien origins Instead, she was falling in love with him and Clark was certain that Lois loved him as much as he loved her. He couldn’t believe how lucky he felt to be with as special a person as Lois Lane.

For a moment like this, Clark was in seventh heaven being held in the arms of the woman he loved with all his heart. He didn’t know what he would do without her or what he would do if anything should happen to this special woman who gave him such unconditional love..who was willing to be with him..to kiss him..to allow his soul to enter hers through this one special moment..through this kiss. For some people indeed wait a lifetime..for that one special kiss and for Clark Jerome Kent..that one special moment had arrived.
Lois finally ended the kiss by coming up for air. She put her head on Clark’s shoulder sighing contentedly as they both swayed to the music. Clark held Lois tighter in his arms. Lois had no idea what affect she had on Clark. Clark listened to the words of the music as he danced and contemplated his relationship with Lois..and he realized that this would be the greatest love of all…an all consuming love..a love that would last forever…he closed his eyes so as to be able to absorb more of Lois’ aura..her scent..her heartbeat..her breathing..every precious part of her essence sent his soul and his heart soaring.
In that kiss..in that moment of time when they had kissed at the stroke of midnight..Clark knew that he had finally met his destiny. Clark absently kissed the top of Lois’ head as they continued to dance to the music. Their bodies entangled together moving in perfect rhythm together never missing a beat..never missing a step..it was as if Lois and Clark were two halves of the same soul. That kiss simply united two halves of one soul. Some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this..for this feeling of utter bliss..utter union with the other half of one’s soul..when one felt such completeness that no words can express the joy..the beauty of this sensation..of love…
Lois looked at Clark her eyes filled with love and not the least bit of repulsion. Clark forever grateful for this woman’s love looked back at Lois, his own eyes filled with passion as he felt the urge to kiss Lois again. In a husky voice, Clark whispered “I have waited all my life for you Lois Lane..I have waited all my life for a moment like this. I feel as if we have met before in another lifetime.I feel as if we have known each other before..I feel so comfortable with you..I’m able to tell you everything about me..to reveal to you the greatest secret of my life..you complete me, Lois Lane..like the missing half of my soul..I’ve been waiting for you all my life...I know you must think I’m crazy..but I love you..my love..my soulmate.
“Oh Clark..what if I told you it was all meant to be..would you believe me? Would you agree? And before I met you..I would never have trusted anyone the way I trust you..before you I would never have opened my heart to anyone the way I have with you..Clark you have unlocked the deepest emotions of my soul..I don’t know anyway how to thank you..I’ve never felt for anyone what I feel for you..it’s..it’s so beyond words..for it’s so special..oh Clark..I love you…

“Lois..I love you too..you mean the world to me..that kiss you gave me..it was..oh well it was.. beyond words..I don’t have the words to express the love I feel for you..only that I could not exist without your love..your support..and of course your kiss…it was like seeing into your soul..it was..” Clark failed to put his emotions into words as Clark felt overwhelmed by his feelings of love, passion, joy and gratefulness to this remarkable woman. What he couldn’t put into words, he was able to express in his kiss for it was in that kiss..that wonderful moment that he had waited all his life for..it was in that magical moment of love that Clark communicated his soul’s love to his soulmate, Lois. In that kiss, it was as if for one brief magical moment in time, Lois and Clark were one soul..one mind..melded together by love.
“Oh Clark..let’s cut the chit chat..” Lois then pushed Clark’s head to her and kissed him one more time for she could never get enough of Clark’s kisses. His kisses made her feel loved, made her feel special in a way that she had never felt in her entire life. Clark had a way of making her feel as if she was the center of his universe..the source of all light..Clark always put her needs above his own and nobody had ever done anything like that for Lois. Just the thought of Clark’s love bought tears to Lois’ eyes.
Her mother was a drunk; her father was never home because he spent all his life working in a laboratory..the famous Dr. Sam Lane..all he cared about was making a reputation for himself. He was never home to tuck Lois into bed..or to attend any of her birthday parties..no..it was Lois, the older sister who practically raised Lucy, her younger sister. It was Lois who had to grow up at a young age to take care of the family. Until the day Clark came along, for the first time in her life, someone took care of Lois..Clark was her best friend..always a shoulder to cry on..the last person she would talk to before going to bed..the fun partner to watch a video or eat pizza with..the one person who gave her the love that her family never had the time to give. For Lois, she too had been waiting all her life for this kiss..for this love.
Both Lois and Clark had waited all their lives for this kiss..for this moment in time..where the clock struck midnight and a New Year is rung in..for this moment in time when both of them learned the true meaning of what it’s like to love and to be loved. Many people wait a lifetime for a magical moment of love that would redefine why they were put on this earth…for this one moment in time when two people finally realize their destiny together..when two people are the answer to each other’s prayer..for that one magical moment in time when two hearts melt into one.
Breathless after that really long passionate kiss, Clark looked at Lois as he inhaled a deep breath and said:
“Happy New Year! Lois!” Lois recuperated as she finished inhaling and looked into Clark’s kind compassionate eyes and reiterated:
“Happy new Year Clark!”
“Lois, this is the happiest New Year I’ve ever had”

Epilogue
Later that year, Clark proposed to Lois and after many obstacles that were to come, Lois and Clark finally married and as they say at the end of fairy tales..and they lived happily ever after.“Happy New Year gentle reader!”
