HOW CAN WE HELP

REDUCE THE EFFECTS

OF WATER POLLUTION?

So, suppose we wanted to reduce the effects of water pollution. What would you do? Well there are many small ways to conserve water and improve the quality of water in our bays, rivers and streams.

Firstly to save water, we should...(a bit obvious), turn our taps off so that water doesn't leak and take shorter showers, (but try not to avoid them...). We should also use less water when watering plants or cleaning the car. You might have already heard of all this but it is true. The facts are real. we must all use less water and save ourselves the heartache of having restricted water supplies in January/ February.

After we start saving water, we should also start looking after our water. For example, when we throw our rubbish on the ground in the schoolyard it either gets picked up and thrown in the garbage, or goes down the drains around the school. After this happens the rubbish is then taken into our underground runoffs, to rivers, streams and even into the bay. So why does that concern us? Well you guys should know that when the water gets to the bay, it eventually gets into the ocean and can also be then transported by waves back to our beaches!!! Imagine swimming in your rubbish. This is even more harmful when chemical waste is dumped into rivers by money minded companies.

After chemicals get into our waterways, we are at risk of acid rain getting into our water supply and causing harm to us. This is just one of hundreds of ways in which water pollution can affect us.

What I am getting at is that we should all do our little bit to stop polluting our waterways and think about the wildlife and ourselves. When we know what happens to our rubbish, don't just ignore it.

I can hear you asking me about what our future holds in terms of Water pollution... The answer to that is that Water pollution will still be a big problem unless major contributors of the pollution stop their environmentally unfriendly actions. In terms of water supplies, I believe that unless we use water very wisely, our water storage levels will be low. We also need good rainfall to aid the storage level over the next 4 months.

JUST REMEMBER THIS RHYME...

‘A little bit of litter goes a long, long way, and the nature is choking on it ev-ery-day, you gotta do the right thing, it’s your obligation and the planet will thank you, for your co-operation.’

The rhyme above has been around for years to try and make us aware of the water pollution problem!!!

RIGHT...DO THE TEST!!!
