Irish Getaway Moves
to Civitan Fairgrounds

We have made the decision to re-locate the 2002 Irish Getaway to the Dublin Civitan Club’s new fairgrounds on highway 257 in Dublin. We regret that we are unable to continue at the Laurens County Sportsmens Club, but there are several reasons we felt the move was in the best interest of the event, hosting chapters, and most of all, our participants.

The Directors of the LCSC attempted to double the rent for the use of their clubhouse. We negotiated this down to an agreeable amount, but still more than we paid this year. They also insist on collecting a camping fee (which would be kept by them) from EVERY camper on the premises, whether hook-ups are used or not. Their proposal ranged from $5.00 per night for primitive camping with no hookups up to $20.00 per night for full hookups, a charge we are not willing to pass on to our guests. Finally, the directors of the LCSC want to exercise more direct control over the event, even to the placement of our vendors.

We have always worked to make the Getaway a very relaxing and laid back weekend for our participants, and to keep the cost to our guests to a minimum. The best way to do this is to move to a location where we can maintain full operation of the Getaway ourselves, without sharing control with an outside group.

We have contracted to use the Civitan Club’s 60’ by 100’ building along with their 15 acres of property. There will be a somewhat greater number of electrical outlets and water connections available, but no dump stations. Best of all, by making this move we can continue our policy of NO REGISTRATION FEE and can return to our past policy of NO CAMPING FEES at all! We know the new location will not be as scenic as the LCSC, but we think it will work out better for all concerned. We look forward to seeing you March 15 & 16, 2002 at the fairgrounds for the BEST IRISH GETAWAY EVER!!!
