Temari
Here are a few photos of temari,  this is an embroidery craft started in ancient Japan.  It is a ball who's interior can be many things then wrapped with thread, The outer stitching goes through the thread layer.

This is my inside/outside temari.  Inside it is gold and white on a black ball, outside in the sunshine it is green/yellow/gold, one one side and blue/pink/gold on the other.  I used solar active color changing thread.

This is a ball that I found in a garage sale, of all places.  The owner had no idea what it was or who made it.  I think it may be one of the balls made for tourists to Japan.

Top and side views of the same ball,  it is three interlocking spindles.  If anyone knows the patterns real name, let me know.

I'm sure this pattern has a real name too but I just divided for a complex 8 measurement, and traced out the big triangles that I found.  I gave the blue one away for a swap.

My DIsaster  Temari.  It was to be a study in texture but I think it failed miserably.  All 6 red threads were different textures from very smooth to very shiny.  All the white is regular floss.   It went well until I got to the fuzzy one.  That one doesn't go at all with the other threads.  It is the same pattern as the red, white, blue, green, one above.

These two balls use verigated threads.

This is the one I did for the IL. state fair that the judges didn't know what it was.  The comment sheet said "Interesting technique".
