NEW SITE IS NOW ONLINE
5/12/07....The new league website is now online.
From this date, all updates will now be on the new
site. The link to the new site is

WEBSITE TO BE
RE-DESIGNED
5/9/07....This website is in the
process of being re-designed. It should be completed
before the start of the season. When it is complete,
a link to the new site will be made available from
the current site.
SEASON TO
START ON MAY 18TH
5/9/07....With permit problems
resolved, the 2007 MSESL season will begin next
Friday night May 18th with 2 games. The defending
league champion Motor Pool Renegades will take on
newcomer Parsons Brinckerhoff at Rotch Field while
Hwy Structures and FHWA will meet at Foss Park in
Somerville.
NEW FIELDS FOR 2007
5/8/07.....A total of 4 new fields
will be utilized for the 2007 season. Foss Park
(Somerville), Cassidy Field (Brighton-Cleveland
Circle), Marine Park (South Boston) and Rotch Field
on Albany Street in Boston. The Boston Common will
be available again mostly during the second half of
the season while limited dates were made available
at Smith Field. Rotch Field is located a few blocks
from the Boston Herald. I have made a link to the
field website available because of some rules that
must be adhered to while playing on the field. Rotch
Park
Rotch Playground was recently renovated and that
renovation included the installation of a field turf
surface.
PERMIT PROBLEMS MAY
DELAY '07 START
5/2/07.....The league has been
unable to secure permits for the same dates and
fields that we have had for the past several years.
It has also been difficult to secure many dates for
the months of May and June. Because of that, the
season will probably get off to a slower than usual
start this year. The league has received permits for
the Common and Smith but without the usual number of
dates that we have had in the past for those two
fields. Permits have been secured for two new
fields. One of those fields is Rotch Field which is
on Albany Street in Boston not far from the Boston
Herald. Rotch Field was recently renovated and has a
field turf surface while the other field is Cassidy
Field which is in Brighton (Cleveland Circle) not
far from Boston College. This website will post any
updates to this year's schedule when they become
available.
MOTOR POOL MAKES IT 4
TITLES IN 5 YEARS;
BEAUDIN'S WALK OFF SLAM WINS IT FOR RENEGADES
9/27/06....The Motor Pool Renegades rallied from an
early 8-0 deficit to win their 4th MSESL
championship in the past 5 years with a 14-10 win
over Highway Structures last night at the Common.
Trailing 10-9 entering the bottom of the 7th, Tom
DiPaolo started the Renegade rally with an infield
single. DiPaolo moved to second when Tom Haley
followed with another single. The rally stalled
after Brett Loosian popped out to third but a clutch
single from Chris White scored DiPaolo to tie the game at 10-10.
Structures intentionally walked John Megan to load
the bases but Keith Beaudin then crushed the first
pitch he saw from Chuck Hale over the left center
field fence giving Motor Pool the 14-10 win and
their 4th title in the past 5 years. Even though
Motor Pool swept this year's finals, Highway
Structures played the Renegades tough and should be
congratulated on a fine 2006 season.
GAME RECAP
MOTOR POOL TAKES GAME 1 OF FINALS
9/23/06....The Motor Pool Renegades took a 1-0
series lead over Highway Structures with a 10-5 win
last night at the Common. Motor Pool's Al Miller and
Structures' Chuck Hale each pitched outstanding
games but the Renegades produced just enough offense
for the win. The Renegades broke open a 6-3 game
with a 4-run 5th inning rally and relied on the
pitching of Miller and another solid defensive
performance to take a 1-0 series lead. Game two will
be played next Tuesday night at the Common.

HWY STRUCTURES AND MOTOR POOL RENEW PLAYOFF RIVALRY
9/20/06....Highway
Structures and the Motor Pool Renegades will renew
their playoff rivalry for the 7th time when they
face each other in Game 1 of the 2006 MSESL Finals
this Friday night at the Common. Structures
currently holds a 4-2 playoff series lead that began
in the 1998 league finals. Structures swept the
Renegades that year and ended Motor Pool seasons in
1999, 2000 and 2001. The two teams met again in 2003
when Motor Pool finally broke through and defeated
Structures, sweeping them in the semifinals. The
Renegades made it two straight over Highways with a
2-game sweep in last year's finals. Motor Pool has
won a total of 3 MSESL titles while Highway
Structures has totaled 12 championships since 1983
including a Celtic-like run of 11 titles in a 13
year period between 1989 and 2001.
LATE RALLY PUSHES
STRUCTURES INTO FINALS
9/20/06.....Highway Structures will play the Motor
Pool Renegades for the 2006 MSESL title after
slipping past FHWA 15-14 with a late rally last
night at the Common. This will be the second
straight year that Structures and Motor Pool will
have met in the finals. Motor Pool won their 3rd
title in 4 years after sweeping Structures in 2005.
Hwy Structures last won the title in 2001 when they
defeated Motor Pool in 3 games. Structures dominated
the league between 1986-2001 when they won 12 MSESL
championships. This year's series is scheduled to
open this Friday night at the Common.
MOTOR POOL SWEEPS BRIDGES
9/16/06....After
a series opening slugfest where both teams combined
for 44 runs, the Motor Pool Renegades and Bridge
Rebels engaged in a pitcher's duel last night at the
Common with the Renegades emerging victorious, 7-3
over the Rebels. Chris White, subbing for Al "The
Natural" Miller, held the high powered Rebels in
check allowing just 3 runs. Jack Buckley pitched
well in defeat for the Rebels allowing just 7 runs
to Motor Pool. The Renegades broke open a scoreless
tie with 2 runs in the bottom of the third on a
2-run single from John Megan. Bridges cut the
Renegade lead in half with a run in the top of the
4th but Motor Pool went up 4-1 in the bottom of the
inning when Kostas Kofitsas followed a lead off Vin
Digilio triple with an inside the park homer. Motor
Pool maintained their lead behind the pitching of
White and a defense that turned 3 double plays.
Motor Pool added three insurance runs in the bottom
of the 6th before Bridges closed out the scoring
with 2 runs in the top of the 7th. Congratulations
to Jose Colon, Jack Buckley and the rest of the
Bridge Rebels for an outstanding season.

FHWA AVOIDS ELIMINATION; MOTOR POOL HOLDS OFF
BRIDGES
9/13/06....FHWA forced a decisive 3rd game after
defeating Highway Structures 24-18 last night at
Smith Field. The series will be decided next Tuesday
September 19th at Boston Common. Highway Structures
took Game 1 of the series 11-8 last Friday night at
the Common. The defending league champion Motor Pool
Renegades blew an early 11-0 lead but bounced back
and held on to defeat the potent Bridge Rebels in a
slugfest 24-20 last night at the Common.
'06 TITLE UP FOR GRABS AS PLAYOFFS OPEN TONIGHT
9/8/06....The 2006 MSESL playoffs get underway
tonight on the Common when Highway Structures and
FHWA open their semifinal series. The Bridge Rebels
and the Motor Pool Renegades will begin their
semifinal series next Tuesday night also at the
Common. It appears that the chase for this year's
MSESL title is more wide open than it has ever been.
The four playoff teams were separated by just 3
points in the final standings. The Motor Pool
Renegades, league champs three out of the past 4
years, finished in 4th place just a game above the
.500 mark.
