THE PLAN OF SANKATMOCHAN FOUNDATION The Sankat Mochan Foundation has been making serious efforts to present to the government technically sound and economical alternatives of sewage collection and treatment, suitable for the local conditions. The prime objective is to ensure wise and proper utilisation of resources allocated under the Ganga Action Plan Phase II. A feasibility report titled "Feasibility Study of Interceptor Sewers and AIWPS Technology for the Prevention of Pollution of Ganga at Varanasi" has been prepared. This report has been jointly made by the SMF and Oswald Green of USA and has been supported by USAID, New Delhi. This report has been unanimously accepted by the Municipal Corporation of Varanasi and is currently lying with the National River Conservation Directorate (NRCD) of the Ministry of Environment for action since May 1997. The Foundation is confident that the success in cleaning the Gangaat Varanasi would become a model and help all other rivers in India faced with similar environmental problems.
