Social Studies

Women's History in America

This site is part of the Women's International Center web site. This is mostly a text based site that is written at a relatively hard level. The reason that I am putting it on this site is so that my female students and mothers can go to the site together and learn about the achievements of women in history. Watch for this site to be referred to in class at some point. It has a lot of great information.

Titanic

The ever popular RMS Titanic sinking has many sites. This is the official Titanic-online site. You can learn just about everything surrounding the ship's sinking and all of the attempts to recover parts of the ship. Please...go, explore!

The American Civil War Hompage

This page contains everything you would want to know about the United States Civil War. It is really an extremely complete site to visit. Once that you are there, you could spend days exploring all of the resources that it holds. The amount of resources that it has can become a little overwhelming, but it does not really take away from the usability of the site.

American Colonial Era and Revolutionary War

This is not the best site about the Revolutionary War, but it is a great place to start. The webmaster of this site has set it up so that people go here to then travel off to other places that he as linked to. I have used this site to help me with numerous project throughout my time at Delaware.

 The History Place-American Revolution

The link that I have given you is part of The History Place homepage. The link is to a huge timeline about the events of America's birth. If you go to the link for The History Place, you can learn about all sorts of events from around the world. The site and its parent site are worth checking out.

Science

How Stuff Works

I've only got one word to describe this site *WOW*. The reason that I made this claim is that this site is just like the book that we all know and love. It takes the reader through a whole explanation of how different things operate. This site is a little wordy, but I think that teachers could definitely utilize the information from it in their classrooms and parents can visit the site with their children. It really is pretty awesome. Make sure that you go and check it out.

Volcano World

A very common topic to study in the fifth and sixth grades is volcanoes. My mother actually stumbled across this site and I thought that it was worth putting on here. This site gives you just about any type of volcano information you could ever want. Almost any teacher could integrate this site into their lessons and have the students follow volcanic activity. They could ask experts the questions that they have. They could read and get background information for a report. The possibilities are almost endless.

Kids' Castle

I think that the best way to describe this site is that it is an online magazine that is interactive with the reader. This site is set up for young people who want to explore different areas of study. They can go here and learn just about anything...You can read articles, answer questions in a forum, and do lots more. Take time to explore this site...

Kinetic City Cyber Club

This is a site for kids to go and learn about social skills. They will interact with other "club members" by telling their opinions about things and saying why this is true or isn't true. The site is specifically designed so students can work on it alone. There are no advertisements, sensitive material, etc. The site even has pages for parents and teachers to go read about the purposes of the site. Enjoy it!

Hey Teachers - I have put together a list of resources that I think you will love. Please excuse the mess, I am still working on the site and I haven't put things into categories yet.
Do you want online curriculum materials?  Do you want your students to have their own web pages or email addresses?
Go to my Online Curriculum Materials page to find out how.

If you have some time, check out these two GREAT web pages...They are coming off of my page, but they were not created by me.  My mother was given the data file at a conference, and I wanted to share it with the world.  If some of the links are not active, I'm sorry.  I'll try to keep an eye on them.
(P.S.-the pages are from related classes and have many of the same links)
