New Stuff Coming Soon!
I know, I know, I've been bad...but I promise, all the stuff we used to have
for "old" Warhammer will be back up for "new" Warhammer
within the next month or so (it's Feb as I write this). That means new
troop types, war machines, and assorted stuff.
New Edition Arrives
Well, I haven't had the opportunity to sit down and crunch through the new
rules, although we did sit down and play a (multi-player) game to see how
different things were. Far as I can tell, they're really not that
different. The rules definitely seem focused on mass combat - big units
are so much more effective than they used to be, thanks to the outnumbering
rule. Magic is toned down (a lot), which I'm fine with. I'll try to
get a chance to read it cover-to-cover and play a few more games, and we'll
see. I'm confident that I'll like the "new" rules...but still
wary about what they may do to any given army.
And once we've got the new rules down, you can bet you'll find new (and
forgotten) stuff here!
LATEST NEWS ON THE NEW EDITION
Have you had a chance to look at Ravening Hordes? A little bit
different, to be sure - but the general attitude around here is that the new
edition's going to be good, definitely an end to "HeroHammer" and
battles where one big spell turned the tide. However, there's a lot of
stuff missing - pikes, for example. You can be sure we'll have rules up
here once the new box comes out. Also, have you noticed the big clearance
sale on Dogs of War stuff? Don't expect Dogs to be anywhere in the new
game - which pretty much sucks for anyone who was playing an all-Dogs
army. If necessary, we'll post retro-rules for Dogs units here, too (after
all, according to Ravening Hordes anyone can take mercenaries).
RAVENING HORDES IS HERE!
The most recent White Dwarf included "Ravening Hordes", which was
intended to allow Warhammer generals to adapt their armies to the new (but
as-yet-unreleased) version of the game. The supplement included pretty
much everything, but points costs and a lot of little rules are quite
different. When the new boxed set (or rulebook) comes out, you can be sure
to see a review here at Rook's Reviews.
What about Retro?
I'm going to hold off on transcribing my rules for Fantasy Retro stuff
pending the release of the 'new' (or should I say 'newest') edition of Fantasy
Battle. Also at that point we'll post all kinds of scenario ideas and
variant stuff, just like with our 40K content. When we get an idea
of what the 'next' edition will be like, you can expect to see here all the
content from the old site, updated, including...(sneaky plug):
Centaurs
Hobgoblins
Berserkers, Animal Handlers, Sappers, etc
Half-Orcs (including a new Regiment of Renown)
Elementals and related magics
Dwarven Cavalry
War Machines
Weaponry (Torinoko Grenades, anyone?)
and much, much, more. And if I know GW there'll be stuff in the current
edition (red box) that gets dumped between now and Christmas. So maybe
you'll see an entire army list or two up here as well.
See you then!
