40K League Winter 2001

aka "Millennial Mayhem"

NB: This page is in flux as I tally the results and change the tables to reflect who lost to whom.  The championship is around the corner.

Recently we had an impetus to start up a 'proper' 40K league as a change from our usual one-off games and the occasional mini-campaign.  Each player will select a 1500 point army, using the Standard Mission chart, and play against each other player as time allows.  On this page we intend to post not only the rules of our league, but also the armies chosen by the players, as well as the results of the battles.

We're going to try to have all the army lists in and approved within the next week or so, allowing everyone to start playing as soon as possible.  Our grand point here is to get playing, and use proper armies, and play a bunch of different people, not to win a bunch of games (but that's nice, too).  If we do any fancy scoring, this will be decided upon by the League as a whole with regard to wins/losses/ties and all that rot; we won't bother rewarding "best painted" (because we know BGC will win), although we could possibly do something for "best composition" or "sportsmanship".

The Forces Gather...

The table below lists the current participants in the League, as well as the army they'll be playing.  Once all the army submissions are in, the column on the right will link to a copy of each player's army list.  We've already begun playing, as you can see...

Player Army W D L
Monkey Alaitoc Rangers 0 0 1
BGC Tyranids 1 0 0
Dangerboy Blood Spillers (Blood Angels) 2 0 0
Rook Squats (Orks) 0 0 1
Racer X Eldar 0 0 1
DarnIt! Chaos 0 0 0
The Enchanter Imperial Guard 0 0 1

As you can see, the Blood Spillers are in the lead, but there are a lot of games to go yet, and it's still anybody's game when it comes to top record.

Ground Rules:

1) Each player will create a 1500-point army according to the Standard Mission layout, consisting of one detachment and drawing from one army list.  Acceptable tournament variants (Speed Freeks, Craftworld variants, Salamanders, etc) are acceptable.  If necessary or desired, a player's army may tally to less than 1500 points (but no less than 1490 points); no player may submit an army of more than 1500 points - the list will not be approved.

2) Each player will submit their army list by the agreed-upon date for review and approval by the League Commission; each list will be checked to assure its legality with regard to allowed choices and points costs.  Any player may review any other player's approved army list at any time before, during, or after a battle.

3) Players may battle each other at any time they can meet, in any order which is necessary or convenient for mutual scheduling - the goal, of course, is for each player to battle against every other player at least once.

4) Battles will consist of a game played between the players' approved 1500-pt armies, according to all pertinent and applicable game rules, using a scenario from the Warhammer 40K rulebook or other published scenario.  The selected scenario may be rolled randomly (the recommended method) or decided upon mutually by the two players before the game begins.  Regardless of mission type (Raid, Battle, etc), the same 1500-pt approved army will be used.

5) Players are responsible for having their Codices on-hand during play.  "Common knowledge" rules which do not appear in the original 40Kv3 rulebook (for example, Terminators having a 5+ invulnerable save) will not require the presence of the requisite White Dwarf article, but odd rules will - use your discretion and good judgment - if you are using any official rules which may not be well-known to your opponent, please have them handy for his review.  (NB -- "Forced March" counts as an "odd rule" for the purposes of this definition)

6)  Contrary to standard GW requirements, it is not necessary for all models to be painted (although, of course, it's a nice goal).  However, any proxies used for the army (please try to avoid this) must be clearly marked so as to differentiate them from other models, as well as pointed out to the opponent during deployment.  Any case where there may be confusion should be cleared up on the army list itself (ie, "the Warlock with Destructor is the one with his base painted red") and submitted with the army at approval time.  Any confusion resulting from a failure to follow these guidelines will likely result in a ruling against the offending player.

7) During game-play, if a question should arise and a rule cannot be found (or digging through manuals would drastically slow play), please make liberal use of the 50-50 rule, ie dice for it.
