Operation: SCIROCCO The pages of Operation: Scirocco will contain ideas, notes, and new equipment for fighting over desert terrain. Why? Because I'm working on a Tallarn army and a desert board, that's why. Perfectly selfish, I know. NEW IMPERIAL DESERT VEHICLESThe vehicles detailed herein were constructed with the rules in the latest White Dwarf, based on models and conversions I use with my desert-themed Imperial Guard army. Pictures are forthcoming. SCIROCCO LIGHT TANK (125 pts) Heavy Support
Weaponry: Turret-mounted Battle Cannon. Equipment: Rough Terrain Modification. The Scirocco Light Tank is designed for use on desert and ash-waste worlds, where its wide chassis helps it better navigate the deadly shifting sands. It is not as heavily armed or armored as a Leman Russ, but has served admirably as a support vehicle for regiments stationed on arid worlds. It's a little cheaper than a Predator, but remember that it's Guardsmen at the weapons, not Marines. IFRIT MISSILE VEHICLE (115 pts) Heavy Support
Weaponry: Ifrit-model Multi-Launcher. The Ifrit Multi-Launcher is essentially a gatling-style missile launcher, i.e. a normal missile launcher which can fire either frag or krak in a given turn, but receives D3 shots instead of the normal 1. Equipment: Rough Terrain Modification. Based on the Scirocco chassis, the Ifrit is an admirable support vehicle for infantry regiments, able to lay down a cordon of frag fire, or alternately to target enemy vehicles with a barrage of krak missiles. This is essentially a kind of Whirlwind variant. SANDCAT SCOUT TRUCK (88 pts) Fast Attack
The Sandcat is a Fast Vehicle. Weaponry: Multilaser, Smoke Launchers. Equipment: Rough Terrain Modification. May have Improved Comms for +20 points. The Sandcat is a speedy armored truck with a turret-mounted multilaser, used primarily as a scout and recon vehicle. On desert worlds which feature Imperial outposts, it is not uncommon to see a patrol of two or three Sandcats racing along the horizon, kicking up a cloud of dust. Faster than Sentinels, but with the same armament (and just as fragile). TORTOISE TRANSPORT (95 pts) Transport
The Tortoise is Open-Topped, and can transport up to twenty models. Equipment: May add Rough Terrain Mod for +5 points. Some Tortoises have been modified so as to be a "double-decker" transport - these variants can carry a total of thirty models can cost an extra +15 points. Few of the old Tortoises are still in use except on far-flung outpost worlds. Although the hull of the Tortoise is somewhat armored, its occupants are exposed, making the vehicle unsuitable for long journeys where a sandstorm could strike. However, the engines of the Tortoise are incredibly powerful, and some regiments keep one around for towing purposes. |
