From:  2NET ( Regine's unofficial secretary on-line )

Hello! Regine said in "S.O.P." earlier that there MIGHT be a
repeat of the "R2K The Concert." The episode wasn't live. I think they
taped it after they did the live broadcast in Baguio last week. Since the
episode wasn't live and it was in Baguio, they only gave little time for
the celebration of Regine's birthday unlike what they did last year. She
first sang "On the Wings of Love" and then they made her think of 5
wishes. For every wish, they set a dove free. It's interesting to note
that her 2nd wish was to direct another artist in a video. she sang
with Lani Misalucha in the show. They did " Let's Get Loud "
( by Jennifer Lopez )

Update: There won't be a repeat.
Not enough time is a good guess.

A Girl Named Steffi Reviews R2K the Concert
April 19, 2000

You could say I'm a Regine fan, even though I don't bookmark her fan sites
or paste her picture as my monitor wallpaper. I admire her voice, her guts
and her determination at getting things done her way. So when Marci (who is
craftily avoiding undeserved hate mail) and Hochi (who refuses to set foot
in Araneta Coliseum) asked me to review the R2K concert, I at first refused
because they wanted me to write a positive review.

It's not that I planned to write a negative review; I am just squeamish
reading reviews written by fans because they tend to gush a little too
much. (Go ahead and read Hochi's Bituin Escalante reviews and tell me I'm
wrong). And I'm pretty sure I am about to gush on this one.

Now that I got that apology out of the way, I have to say that the R2K
concert is the biggest local solo concert this country has ever seen. I do
not overstate here. The stage is composed of three levels, the floors of
which are made of plexiglass, with a trapdoor at the top level to
accommodate entrances and exits of guests, Jaya, KC Montero and Regine
herself. There are three huge video walls, pyrotechnics, and if we were
able to take pictures, Marci would have made another page for her Shiny
Happy People "Friends" issue, because it seems that Regine Velasquez has
more friends than there are people working on the PinoyCentral Music site.
Other guests include Janno Gibbs, Ogie Alcasid and Gabby Eigenmann.

Regine was wonderful, I dare say even better than expected. If it seemed
impossible for her to sound better than she already does on the album, and
on her song numbers in various TV appearances, well, we can say she has
achieved the impossible. And her venture into directing is pretty
successful, in that she was able to incorporate all these new ideas and
stage them into this concert. Among these new ideas of hers, my favorites
were her inclusion of drag queens whose icon of choice is Asia's Songbird
herself, Cacai Velasquez's surprise appearance as a dancer in Regine's
concert staple "Sana Maulit Muli," and Regine's singing "Butterfly." Marci
had commented that it was very Mariah Carey of her, but she had to admit to
the goose bumps that crawled up her arms as Regine, sustaining a high note,
was harnessed up above the stage, floating ethereally like the songbird she is.

My only disappointment ( and it's only a small complaint ) is that some of
the new "tricks" (as Marci put it) seem like a marketing strategy.
Especially when Regine sang a medley of the songs she sang for the movies
she starred in and Aga Muhlach went up the stage to be with her. I know
that they were in a movie together and they could be a couple for all we
know, but what was the point exactly? He didn't even sing.

But otherwise, I was very satisfied with the outcome of the concert. Her
"encore" is a medley, just like her opening number, this time, the
highlight song is Irene Cara's "Fame," which I thought rather belated. The
lyrics go "I'm gonna live forever/I'm gonna learn how to fly high..." Well,
if she wants fame, she doesn't have to fly too far. In my opinion, and I
would say this even if I wasn't a fan, Regine Velasquez has definitely
arrived.

***Steffi is Marci's younger sister. Nepotism was not employed in this
article since Hochi had to bribe Steffi to write it.

It was a pretty good article so make sure
she gets what's coming to her. -m&m

You know this writer is probably right about that. But so what-
If Viva paid the mega bucks to produce and promote the show
(and they did a pretty good job for once) I wouldn't mind them
taking a few liberties about self-promoting themselves and their
products. (sponsors, other stars, etc...) But I'm sure Regine wouldn't
let them go too, too far with it.

I can easily see the managers at Viva 'encouraging' the stars
to watch and be seen there. From Viva's point of view? What a move.

So Aga going up on stage is cool yet a little shameless in another way.
I rather not see Regine do those kind of 'tricks'. You think Viva was
testing to see the reactions of fans so as to
gauge if they should
do another movie together or something. Or just promote their old movie
which is out on video now and the soundtrack. But that kind of stuff
should really be for young artists like A.Taus or Isabel G.
Woman of substance and talent don't need that kind of 'gimik'
to sell their material. We can all agree on that I'm sure.
