Lone Shadow

Walking down the rain-glistened pavement,

watching my lone shadow.

Futile streetlights fail to shine the night.

Seeing my lone shadow walk,

somehow, I began to wish

She finds me walking alone in the night

asks me how I am

We would walk and chat, close the year-gap in a moment

of mutual understanding,

and love

A couple walks by, encased in their ecstasy.

Reverie broken, reality bites.

Surely no laws of reality can fetter

the freedom of dreams to console!

But the streetlights cast on the rain-glistened pavement,

my lone shadow, mocking my dreams.

All at once, I saw all folly,

and sighed.
