Discussion

Creativity Amidst Disillusionment

Being discriminated against in this society is not a death sentence nor an ‘ill-sentence'. There are a number of creative solutions to this position (as well as to any of the problems we face in life). Pedro Meyer, a digital photographer of Mexican origin, uses photography as a political weapon to demystify stereotypes/ reshape Hispanic identity. Through photomontage, juxtaposition, and provocation, he produces strikingly meaningful images. Expression through art transcends cultural barriers. While associations may differ, our creative output overcomes language barriers, and releases stress in a socially acceptable fashion. Although our cultures provide us a template, we should not underestimate the active role we have in the realities which get constructed in its dynamic hive mind. Pedro Meyer is aware of this.
