Goku

Goku was found in a spaceship by his adopted grandfather Gohan. Goku was a little boy with a tail who was very bad. One day Gohan dropped Goku was struggling with Grandpa Gohan and her fell off a cliff hitting his head very hard and losing his memory. From that day on he was a good boy. Grandpa Gohan taught him martial arts and how to be a hermit. One night, during a full moon Goku changed into Oozaru (a were-monkey) and unknowingly killed his grandfather in his rage. His tail which caused him to change into Oozaru was later removed. Goku then met Bulma who which he joined to look for dragonballs. Goku participated in three Tenkaichi Budokai tournaments and later went on to fight with Piccolo's father. He killed Piccolo's father which caused Piccolo to hate Goku and want to kill him. Many years later Goku goes to Kamesennin's home for a reunion with his son Gohan who noone had ever seen. A stranger named Radditz arrives who says he is Goku's brother from the planet Vegeta which had been destroyed. He tells Goku he is a Saiyajin, a powerful warrior race who conquers and sells planets. Goku was sent to earth when he was child to take over the planet. Radditz captures Gohan. Goku and Piccolo must team up to beat Radditz. When Radditz is finally defeated by Goku's noble sacrifice of his life he must go down snakeway to receive training from King Kaio. Before Radditz died he relayed a message to two even more powerful Saiyajins named Vegeta and Nappa who have learned of the dragonballs and will arrive in one year. Goku is revived one year later to fight Nappa and Vegeta, the two Saiya-jin warriors. His adventures continue along with all his other friends throughout many saga's of Dragonball Z and also through Dragonball GT.
Gohan

Gohan is a very shy boy. Chi-chi makes him study constantly so some day he can have a great job but he is always going on long adventures with Goku and the rest of the gang. Gohan is kidnapped by Radditz and during Goku and Piccolo's battle with Radditz Gohan can get extremely upset and that exposes a hidden power which injures Radditz. However Gohan awakens after the attack not remembering a single thing. After Goku is killed Gohan trains with Piccolo and becomes a lot stronger. Gohan becomes a member of the Z team fighting Nappa and Vegeta until Goku returns from King kaio's. Gohan is very scared in the beginning but eventually holds his own against both Saiya-jins and helps out his father. Gohan's adventures continue throughout Dragonball Z and Dragonball GT with the DragonBall gang.

Trunks was first introduced in the DragonballZ series as Vegeta and Bulma's son from the future when he comes in his time machine and easily defeats Freeza.In Trunks's time androids #17 and #18 had almost destroyed all of humanity. Trunks came to the past to try to save Goku from his heart disease which he dies from in the future and cannot help defeat the androids. Chibi Trunks is soon introduced after Trunks arrives.
Vegeta

Vegeta is the prince of Saiya-jins from the planet Vegeta of which his father rules. Vegeta worked for Freeza who hired the saiyans to take over planets for him to sell. Vegeta and Nappa intercepted Radditz's message about the dragonballs and they decided to come to Earth to wish for immortality. Vegeta arrived and battled Goku till almost both of them died but Goku prevailed.. Later on Vegeta has a son with Bulma named Trunks who is a powerful half human/ half Saiya-jin. Vegeta's story continues through-out Dragonball Z and Dragonball GT along with the Dragonball gang.
Piccolo

Piccolo-Daimao was first introduced into the Dragonball series as the evil half of Kame(god). Goku killed Piccolo-Daimao but before he died he spit out an egg which formed into Piccolo that we know in DragonballZ. Piccolo is a mortal enemy of Goku and only wants to defeat him and be the strongest person on Earth. However, Goku and Piccolo team up many times to save the world which Piccolo wants to rule in the future. Piccolo slowly becomes good as he gets to know Gohan and he sacrifices himself to save Gohans life. Piccolos story continues throughout DBZ and DBGT along with the Dragonball gang.
Krillen

Krillin was first introduced in the Dragonball series as a child. He was a monk from the Orinji Temple. He left his temple to recieve training from Kamesennin. Krillin was almost rejected until he produced a porno magazine for kamesennin who then welcomed him with open arms(LOL). Krillin and Goku trained together but did not like each other since they were in competition but soon became allies and best friends while fighting together. Krillin is a main character in DragonballZ who lends a helping hand when he can since he is no longer as strong as some others. Krillin and Goku still remain and always will be best friends in their adventures continue.
