Pomperaug 41 Simsbury 26

Pomperaug defeated Simsbury in the Class L State Semifinal in Southbury on Tuesday night 41-26. The Panthers got
two rushing touchdowns from Senior halfback Ben Crick. Andrew Clements added three touchdown passes and ran
for a score to seal the victory. Pomperaug will face Notre Dame-West Haven in a rematch of the 2001 State Semifinal
game which Notre Dame won 20-16.

Pomperaug led 27-20 at the beginning of the Fourth Quarter. Facing a fourth-down and five, the Panthers sent Kevin
Foley out to attempt a 31-yard field goal. While the kick sailed wide to the left, Simsbury was flagged for
running into the kicker and  Pomperaug was given a new set of downs inside the Simsbury ten-yard line. Clements
took the next snap and rushed up the middle for an 8-yard touchdown and ultimately put the game out of reach.

In other SWC news, Bethel shocked the entire state by defeating #1 seed and defending State Champion New London in
their Class M State Semifinal game. The 34-12 final indicates how well the Wildcats played on both sides of the ball. Bethel
forced four New London turnovers and got three rushing touchdowns from their leading rusher Pete Gallagher.
