Bunnell defeated Masuk 22-14 in the Class L State Final on Saturday and won their second straight State Championship.
The Bulldogs controlled the game early and ran out to a 22-0 lead at halftime. At the end of the third quarter, however,
Masuk found new life behind quarterback Bobby Baker who completed a 39-yard pass to Ray Palmer to set up their first
touchdown of the game. After Masuk recovered an onsides kick, Baker moved the ball by completing eight of nine passes
and set up a 10-yard touchdown run by Niko Guerrera. Despite the late charge, Masuk was unable to score a third time they
were stopped just short of a first down and they were unable to get out of bounce and stop the clock on their final possession.

Bunnell finishes the season at 13-0. Their perfect season included the SWC Championship and now the Class L State
Championship. Despite the loss of All-Stater Steve Smith from last year's team, the 2007 Bulldogs were just as prolific
an offense under their new quarterback, Chris Sloat. They also ended the season with the best record in school history
and ranked 3rd in the New Haven Register Top 10 and the New London Day's Top 10 poll.

As members of the SWC, it is good to see a conference team win a State Championship and another SWC member
playing in the championship game. It was pointed out that the SWC was 2-11 in State playoff games from 1999-2002
and many were calling the conference weak and overrated. Since that time, the SWC teams have won 13 playoff games,
and three State Championships. Evidence that the conference is very competitive despite what others may have thought.
