Tired
of contributing to the rampant use of our dwindling supply of fossil fuels? Propane companies have been helping people to convert their fossil
fuel vehicles to propane for over 20 years. Conversion of a vehicle
costs far less than purchase of a new vehicle as well as giving the
consumer the greatest possible range of vehicle choices for their
newer cleaner vehicle.
Propane is an efficient, low-emission alternative fuel. The latest
word is that propane delivers the highest energy efficiencies when
compared to other fuel production life cycles – and when fitted with
approved closed-loop controls and exhaust catalysts, its use results
in very low emissions that meet and exceed California Air Resource
Board Large Spark Ignition (CARB LSI) standards. This comes from a
review, released by the Propane Education and Research Council
(PERC), of forklift emission studies that compares the emissions data
of propane to compressed natural gas (CNG) or gasoline. (As reported
in the June 1, 2003, issue of AltFuels Advisor)
One fact that the media never reports and that is such a part of
common sense that it is commonly missed is that there is no reason in
the long term for oil companies to encourage people to stay with
fossil fuels forever. They knew before we did that they were working
with a limited resource and they still want to make money. Businesses
count on the consumers resistance to change to peddle the old product
while also peddling the new product to the die hards among us that
are willing to make any changes to their lives needed in the name of
environmental reform.
When I have spoken publicly about this issue, I have take a raised
hands polls of my audience to see how many people have ever inquired
about converting their personal vehicle to propane. At one
engagement, I had been given the chance to speak to a group of
offroad truck enthusiasts, and prior to the event, we did a little
homework. You should have seen the looks on their faces when we were
able to show them that not only was the conversion possible on their
trucks, but it would cost far less than many other alterations they
had already done for the love of their sport.
