Console Wars
The GBA is a lotta fun. You can take it with you anywhere and play with a friend.
It's the best portable gaming system ever made. But lets face it, It can't live up to home consoles. It is just not as good. So the question arises. What home console are you going to get? I know not all of you GBA owners have home consoles, but this is a pretty frustrating deal that I and millions of other gamers are going through. This temporary section is running in conjunction
with a related poll on the home page. Be sure to take the poll. So here it comes, CONSOLE WARS!
So you've gotten your GBA and are very happy, but then Nintendo plans to release the Gamecube this November, and Bill Gates decides to jump in the Bandwagon and try to monopolize the video gaming industry with his disciple, the Xbox. Now you can finally find a PS2 to buy as well. So..... which one do you buy??? Only the PS2 is currently available but Xbox and Gamecube are
coming out soon. Well there is no correct answer. They are all excellent pieces of hardware. You must decide this for yourself, but I am here to provide you with some guidance.
Just because you've got the GBA does not mean you have to buy Nintendo's Gamecube as well. Find out what system best meets your needs. Here's a list of questions that you should ask yourself about a system before purchasing it.
1. Does the system have games that interest you?
Just because the system is the most powerful does not mean it will be the best one for you. If you are a big Pokemon fan and you get an Xbox or a PS2, you'll be ticked when a new Pokemon game comes out for GCN, Gamecube, and you can't get it. It seems like the majority of games for the Gamcube are E rated and there aren't many T and M rated titles, so if you're over 13 you might consider not getting the GCN. Older Anime' fans may want a PS2 since it has the Gundam license, and lots of Anime' RPGs.
2. Can you afford the system?
Gamecube costs $200, PS2 $300, Xbox $300. The PS2 has a DVD player and it is backwards compatible so you can use PSX controllers, Memory Cards, etc. This would save you some money if you already had a PSX. The Xbox can play DVDs, but you have to buy an item that costs $30 to unlock the capability. The GBA can serve as another controller/ screen for the GCN.
3. Is the system powerful enough for your gaming experiences?
Satistically the Xbox is the most powerful system, followed by the GCN, and last the PS2. However I don't see how Gran Turismo 3 for the PS2 could get more realistic, however some people must have the most powerful system on the market.
I hope this section has helped you make your decision. Be sure to vote on the home page about your decision and feel free to leave a comment. This was a difficult subject for me and I finally arrived at what system I would get, the PS2. I was going to buy a DVD Player and a cheap one is $100. I already had a PSOne so I could use that equipment. I love Anime' but I'm not a Pokemon fan, and Mobile Suit Gundam is for the PS2. I also like RPGs and mech games. It just seemed like the right system for me. Be sure to research each system and it's games before deciding.
LATER
Follow-Up
I ended up not getting a PS2. I just got a DVD player. I may get a GCN next year. I dunno.
