Birders and bird watchers at all levels of experience, whether members or nonmembers, are welcome at all of our activities.  It is recommended that you RSVP for every trip you plan to attend, unless otherwise noted.  Scheduled field trips may be cancelled due to weather or for other reasons, at the discretion of the field trip leader.  Notice of last minute changes will be posted, if possible, on this page.  Be sure to dress for the weather and conditions.  A hat and sturdy shoes or boots are recommended.  Bring binoculars and drinking water and be prepared with insect repellent and sun block.  If you don't have binoculars, call ahead, as we can probably bring a spare pair for you to use.  Come join us!  We love sharing our local birds with new folks (or old friends).

Saturday, April 16 -- 8:00 AM -- Mineola Preserve for migrants and breeding birds. Susan Evans will lead this trip to the preserve, which has ponds, riparian habitat and fields that attract a variety of birds. There should be breeding Prothonotary, Kentucky and Swainson’s Warblers and Northern Parulas, Lark Sparrows, and Blue Grosbeaks, Indigo and Painted Buntings may be arriving. We will also look for early migrant warblers.

Directions: From I-20, take Hwy 69 north past Lindale. Just after you pass the Sabine River, take the first right and follow the signs to the Mineola Preserve. If you enter the town of Mineola on Hwy 69, you have gone too far. We will meet in the Preserve parking lot at 8:00 am. We will walk 1-2 miles on well-maintained trails, and should be done before noon. Questions? Directions? Contact Peter Barnes (903-839-8359 or pbarnes123(at)gmail.com).

Wednesday, May 4 -- 6:30 PM -- Regular general membership meeting of Northeast Texas Field Ornithologists.  Location: Greggton United Methodist Church, 1101 Pine Tree Road, Longview.  We'll be meeting in the Community Room around the back side of the church.  Happy King will present a program on her recent birding trip to Sri Lanka.
