HOUSTON - ANDREA YATES
An urgent action alert sponsored by the Lamp of Hope Project and
Murder Victims' Families for Reconciliation - Texas

Please write the DA and prosecutors asking them not to seek the death
penalty in the case of Andrea Yates.  Your letter doesn't need to be
long at all.  It just needs to register your opinion. 

It will be easier to help her now than later down the line if she is
sentenced to death.

Please remember that Justice for All got 500 letters sent to Gov. Perry
asking that he veto the bill banning the execution of the mentally
retarded.  And if you would, please e-mail a copy of your letters to
me.  I will keep a number running on the website to let you know how
many have been sent in.  My e-mail is karen@lampofhope.org  Perhaps
someone can call a press conference so that we can deliver a HUGE bag of
letters to the DA.  :-)

I would like to encourage you to NOT seek the death penalty for Andrea
Yates.  It is my opinion that she suffers from a mental illness and needs
treatment.   A death sentence would only compound the grief of this  family
and continue the violence.

I am opposed to the death penalty and ask that you act compassionately  with
this mother and seek a penalty that would promote healing rather than
vengeance.
