RESPONSE FROM JOURNALIST 1
June 12, 2002
It's funny you bring up the subject because I'm in the process of putting an article together for the newspaper I work at in Burlington, Iowa called The Hawk Eye. The story will be running on July 7, the 55th anniversary of the alleged crash at Roswell. I believe in UFOs as I saw one in the mid-1990s on a fishing trip in northeastern Pennsylvania. Additionally, as a child of about 8 or 9, I had an experience one night that I've come to believe was an alien encounter.
Anyway, your comments on the subject of the media not taking ufos seriously could be useful to the stories I am preparing. I am aware of the websites you cited and will probably be pulling some information from them for my articles. Please e-mail me at XXX@XXXX.com or call me at XXX-XXX-XXX.
Yes, I would greatly appreciate your assistance for the UFO stories I'm
planning. I really need to get moving on these projects so if you could give
me a call at the office sometime this week, that would be great. My number
is XXX. Please contact me when you get a chance. I work off
hours, so if I'm not here, leave a message on my voice mail and I'll get
back to you.
This article(s) should run around July 7, 2002. When they are published, I will provide a link to them at "News Making A Difference".
I should also note, I do not think the person who originally wrote this journalist ever responded to his request to call. Therefore, I did.
RESPONSE FROM JOURNALIST 2:
Thanks for the e-mail. i appreciate your concern for journalism and, of course, UFOs. i have in fact done more than a few Internet searches for unidentified airborne objects and found just what you said: a panoply of believer sightings, government documents, alleged cover-ups, critical analysis and others of the like.
there can be no question the ether is abuzz with the giddy speculation that web-fingered E.T.s walk among us, and that
their rune-scribed silver ships occasionally whiz through our atmosphere. but is it any wonder that the popular media ignores the myriad reports and alien autopsy photos that are so easily available?
we could trace this conspiracy of suppression back to the time of ezekiel, who wrote of 'chariots of fire' in the sky (and, as is so common, was generally ignored).
no, really the conspiracy should be traced to a little new mexico town that was suddenly thrust to the forefront of interplanetary politics when a small craft from the pleiades cluster crashed in a remote cattle (or was it sheep?) field nearby. since that point, the U.S. government, along with help from the French, have worked tirelessly to erase any trace of ufos from public view, and cut up any "gray" into little tiny pieces and put those pieces into little jars in some underground bunker in Utah.
so, we as journalist have very little to go on, unfortunately. many may be tempted to write the whole thing off as some Jungian group-consciousness thing, a symbol of our secret collected fear of being alone in a vast universe.
not this journalist.
anyone that has been witness to the carnage of a cattle mutilation knows the power (and great wisdom!) that could be achieved with serious contemplation, research and study of the grays. to decipher the meaning of amputated bovine eyeballs and cauterized anuses could be more productive to humankind than many in the establishment would admit -- if we could somehow block the French from interfering.until the tide of cynicism slows or reverses, many in the media will remain shackled to the burden of supplying "concrete" proof of aliens and space craft. i know, it is a rigged game we must play.

RESPONSE FROM MONICA MORRIS:
XXX sent me your response to his request today.
I would like to thank you for replying to his e-mail and let you know that I commend you for your apparent research on the topic.
Obviously, I understand your position. You can't write about it because so many people are closed minded and still believe that God created humans - the super race and none other. However, given that you are so familiar with this subject, I am sure you are well aware of The Disclosure Project? (www.disclosureproject.org).
This is the purpose for my reply to your response: Would you consider, in the near future, covering a story regarding the Disclosure Project, their recent efforts and accomplishments, as well as a summary of their 450 governmental witnesses?
I am not requesting that you upset any readers with mere theories, just that you consider covering a "real" event with "real" people with "real" stories working for the (I won't say "real" here) government?
Thank you for your consideration. Should you decide to cover such a story, I hope you will inform me so that I can supply the article at: "Breaking The Silence On UFOs
RESPONSE FROM JOURNALIST 3:
Thanks for writing. We appreciate the input.
Our paper is a small daily, which specializes in coverage of two counties in Alabama. We are always eager to learn of news and unusual happenings in our coverage area. I have been on staff here for almost 23 years. If there have been any incidents regarding UFOs here, we have not heard of them and we certainly would not cover them up. If anything has occurred, it could be that any witnesses have chosen not to come forward to tell about their experience.
For incidents outside our coverage area, we rely on the Associated Press. It is an association of media sources who share news from their respective areas when the items are of broader interest. In addition, AP has its own staff of reporters and photographers who are assigned to stories of broad interest. We would welcome stories from AP as well on the subject.
As for researching the subject on the net, that would be useful to us only in the context of gathering general information as it might relate to a local story.
If you are aware of any incidents in our area, or if you are aware of any UFOlogists who live in our coverage area (Talladega County, St. Clair County, Coosa County or the Harpersville-Vincent area of Shelby County), we might very well be interested in working up a story on the subject. We'll need your help in making contact with the people.
Thanks for writing./XXX
(If you can assist this paper in writing a UFO related article, e-mail them at: email@example.com )
RESPONSE FROM JOURNALIST 4:
If I were to write a story on UFO's it would surely include the fact that every inch of the the atmosphere is monitored and if anything the size of a baseball entered the atmosphere, we would know it. There has never been any compelling evidence. The jump from "there is a light in the sky" to "it must be a craft filled with extraterrestrial life forms" is one I am not willing to make. The old adage "extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof" is a very apt one. Just because millions of people believe it doesn''t make it true. Just Sure UFO's exist -unidentified flying objects. Sure, there are probably planets brimming with life. But, intersteller travel is rediculous. Why would they care about humans? Why haven't they contacted us? The questions go on and on, but no plausible answer has ever surfaced. I will look at your information, however.
RESPONSE FROM MONICA MORRIS:
You sent me your response to Peter by accident. However, I would like to thank you for replying to his e-mail.
Contrary to what you stated in your reply, there has been and still is evidence of crafts entering our atmosphere. As you are well aware, in our history, many things have been "covered up" by the government. You stated: "Just because millions of people believe it doesn't make it true." I understand your point. My point is - Just because the government tells you that they don't know what these 'lights' or 'crafts' are, doesn't mean they don't actually know. Need proof? Keep reading.
Obviously, I understand your position. You don't want to write about it because so many people are close- minded and still believe that God created humans - the super race and none other. However, you've probably heard of The Disclosure Project. (www.disclosureproject.org). This organization is in contact with government officials. They currently have 450 governmental witnesses willing to testify under oath, of their first hand knowledge of UFOs/UFO Technology/Etc. These witnesses not only have their word, they have 'concrete' evidence. (portions of the technology, flight data recorders, classified government documents, etc. etc. etc.)
You also stated, "Why haven't they contacted us?" Perhaps if you research the information I provide below, you will finally realize - they have.
As I said before, many Congressional leaders and other politicians have contacted Dr. Greer of Disclosure Project to request information from these witnesses and hear some of the evidence. It all began 5-12-01 when Disclosure held a Press Conference at the National Press Club in Washington DC (the largest web cast in history played over the internet). And to this date, many of these politicians are still in contact with Dr. Greer; requesting more information.
This is the purpose for my reply to your response: Would you consider covering a story regarding the Disclosure Project, their recent efforts and accomplishments, as well as a summary of their 450 governmental witnesses?
I am not requesting that you upset any readers with mere theories, just that you consider covering a "real" event with "real" people with "real" stories working for the government?
Thank you for your consideration. Should you decide to cover such a story, I hope you will inform me so that I can acknowledge the article at: "Breaking The Silence On UFOs".
JOURNALIST'S RESPONSE TO MONICA MORRIS:
Thank you for actually responding. I figured I was just replying to a spam
letter and that my message would not be read. Sorry for the venom of my
response. Note that my irritation was not so much to your cause as it was to
all of the spam I receive. I am aware of the disclosure project. I have
looked closely into UFO's before and the one problem I have is accusing all
of the believers of being liars or lunatics. However, the manner in which
the governmet is supposedly covering up the information puts a lot of human
characteristics on aliens, as does all of the information I have ever read.
Why do they reveal themselves to the government. How do they communicate
with us? Do they have vocal chords and speak English? Why do they care?
Curiosity and discovery is a human trait; is it neccesarily universal? I
think the 2 eyes, 2 legs, and 2 arms of the greys is very unlikely as well.
They did not evlove on Earth. That is unless they are some form of human
time traveller, which is another extraordinary claim that would require
extraordinary proof. The other problem is America is the only place greys
have been seen.
Another problem I have with the government witnesses is the fact that they
are "government witnesses." Most of the crashes and sightings are around
test facilities and I think the potential for a disinformation campaign is
very great. Better the public yell about UFO's than the latest war machine.
MONICA MORRIS REPLIES, AGAIN:
I understand your frustration with spam. Having an AOL account, I'm painfully aware of how annoying it becomes!
You asked why they reveal themselves to the government. I can't say if they are intentionally "revealing themselves" to them or if our technology is advanced enough to find them. As you said, we have technology that allows us to become aware of things in our atmosphere.
As for your comments on 2 legs, 2 arms, and 2 eyes... I'm not sure how to respond here. :) I am not an evolutionary scientist so I can't really speak from fact, only opinion. My opinion is that regardless of what planet they evolved on, it is possible to have 2 of everything, such as humans. Most planets that are capable of supporting life, according to scientist, would have very similar chemicals that Earth is made from. Therefore, if life exists on other planets, it could be very much like earth. So would life evolve the same way? Sure. We evolved this way, after all. However, I'm sure that in our vast universe, there are many kinds of species who've evolved differently than humans. So, its possible that they are out there. Simply because we've only seen ones similar to us, doesn't mean that others don't exist.
I don't know if you're right about the grays and them only visiting America. From what I have heard from different Research Orgs. around the world, grays are the most common. But, I can't speculate and I don't want to spread a theory.
God knows there is enough of that out there!
I agree with you completely about new "war machines" from this technology. Humans creating something more to harm each other with is the last wish anyone who believes in UFOs has (at least the masses of them). And I believe that eventually we will be faced with a dilemma... officials will be telling America (and other countries) that we need to weaponize space because of an alien threat. Most likely, this threat will be 100% invalid but a large degree of the population will support this idea - simply because of past programming of our minds with movies such as "Independence Day", etc. Therefore, the more people learn about this situation, the better we will all be.
As for "government witnesses", your hesitation doesn't surprise me. For the most part, a large number of people do not believe many things their government says. But I think this situation is different. These are astronauts, engineers, etc. who worked for the government and are "going against the grain". They have the evidence that the government has told them they can not speak about. But they have courage and faith that this information is extremely important to the public and that American's have the right to know. And amazingly, many politicians are listening (and continue to contact Disclosure to ask more questions and request meetings).
Some of these politicians have said, "We will help but we need the media to educate the public more on this issue if we plan to make progress. We need the media to let the people know so that the people will demand Congressional Hearings."
And that is why you were contacted. Many people will be sending you e-mails in the near future, requesting coverage of The Disclosure Project. Many of them you will receive from this e-mail address. I have agreed to send out the letters that other people write, should they not have the time to send them themselves.
Should you choose to read or delete them, is your right. I hope that you will take the time to hear what the public has to say and consider their wishes.
With your help, we can make a difference. Without your help, we will end up with more weapons of mass destruction, more 9-11s, make believe aliens space threats, etc.
Thank you for your time. Should you choose to write a story on this topic, I will be more than happy to assist you in any way that you might request. Just let me know what I can do!
P.S. Tonight I will forward your original response to Peter (the person who typed the e-mail request)
Journalist #4's Reply To Monica's Response:
Actually, when i was writing about "war machines" I meant that that perhaps
the so-called UFOs are made by the U.S. government. Because people believe
in aliens, a lot of the heat is taken off the government, especially when
people claim the latest jet fighter is an alien craft. What I am talking
about is a disinformation campaign by the government where officially they
deny the existence of UFOs but unofficially promote the myth of space craft,
thereby causing the citizenry to chalk these sightings up to little green
men instead of the U.S. government.
Also, if you read more about evolution, you will see that humans are just a
fluke. If a meteor had never wiped out the dinasaurs, we would not be here.
If the world was covered in water we wouldn't be here. If only a few
circumstances had been different, the age of the mammal would have never
came, and we would not be here. Floating jellyfish could have ruled the
world if a few events were altered.
Life can exist in volcanos, by sea vents in the unfriendly depths of the
ocean, and in pools of super heated water. These critters are called
extremophiles. My point is, there is nothing that says life has to evlove
under the same circumstances that lead to humans. In fact, the conditions in
which life first emerged from the primordial stew would not have supported
human life. This all being said, it is impossible for life on another planet
to take a course that mirrors our own over a period of 4 billion years
enough to produce space travelling greys who look amazingly similar to
humans. Every meteor, every DNA molecule, every ice age, every ocean and
every member of the food chain would have to be in place to make this
happen. Who says they will even use DNA or sexual reproduction. It is
Further more, when Europeans claim to see aliens (which is extremely rare)
they are red aliens and do not resemble the greys. However, most Europeans
spend much time making fun of Americans for their ridiculous obsession with
I would have to have these questions answered cleared up to take an interest
in aliens. Just because a person is a politician, it doesn't make him smart.
Look at W. I am not jumping on the alien band wagon just because a couple
congressmen are. And, what are these crongressmen's names?
Monica Replies to Journalist #4 (again):
I don't disagree with much of your letter; you make good points.
Obviously, everything needs to be considered. However, I think that you would be able to see more of the "bigger picture" if you were to contact the Disclosure Project at: firstname.lastname@example.org. Tell them you are considering writing an article (if you are considering it), tell them Monica Morris said for you to contact Derek Garcia with their offices so that you could ask them some of these questions you are asking me.
Many of the questions you are asking me would require me to give you theories/opinions/speculation. And these are not what I want to dish out! Our minds are crowded with enough of that already, wouldn't you agree?
However, I realize that you have questions on theories so I am currently working on getting some information for you from UFO Researchers in Europe, since you made a statement about no "grays" being anywhere BUT the U.S. and that Europe experiences "red beings". I admit, I do not know if any of this is true or not. So at this time, I am not going to make any statements on that - other than to say I will be in contact with you again on this issue. (Just as soon as I receive the information I have requested from these investigators).
You asked, "What are these congressmen's names?". Again, I cannot give you all of the information on this, you would need to contact Derek Garcia. However, I can share with you some information and quotes from politicians in the past year:
"The subject of UFOs is often overlooked but it seems that many people have encountered similar sightings. It is evident that this issue affects our citizens and deserves careful consideration" - WI, Congress Rep., F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr.
"In May I met with representatives from the Center For Extraterrestrial Intelligence (CSETI). Clearly, the issues surrounding UFO and ET secrecy have many implications. The details I received from the CSETI meeting intrigued me. I will continue to keep these views in mind as I continue my work in Congress" -CA, Congressional Rep. Louis Capps
"We should seek to verify that the most plausible explanation for the evidence present is the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence rather than some other natural phenomenon or anthropogenic phenomenon." - TX, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson
The above statements were made on their letterhead, complete with signatures.
There have been many responses, all of which I can't list here. Some that I simply won't. (Such as Gov. Ventura's support of Disclosure Project). But I wanted to give you an example.
Also, Congressman Dennis Kucinich (Cleveland, OH) has been fairly involved with the Disclosure Projects efforts and continues to hear from Dr. Steven Greer. By-the-way, Mr. Kucinich wants to ban space based weapons perhaps you could ask him for his reasons WHY? ;-)
As I said, if you would like further information on congressional support, I can only direct you to Derek Garcia. I'm sorry I can't be more forthcoming.
I am going to provide you with some article links that other journalists have written. Perhaps if you are considering a story, you might like to see what other people are reading from the media?

You stated that, "humans are just a fluke". That does not mean other intelligent life forms can't be out there and don't have the intelligence to travel space. Maybe they experienced "flukes" too. After all, the universe is HUGE and contains billions of stars. We do not know that other life does not exist. To the contrary, thousands of people a year claim that it does and that they've experienced some form of it. 450 Government witnesses claim to have worked on these crafts (or other aspects) and are willing to swear by it and provide evidence in a court of law. What is the harm in allowing them to testify?
I realize that it isn't up to YOU but it is up to you to inform the public. If you choose to or not, on this issue, only you know.
I'm not asking you to fill their minds full of theories or prove that they exist. Millions of people now believe UFOs in Earth's atmosphere to be of Extraterrestrial origin. So there is no need for you to "prove" anything. You are only being asked to consider writing an article and only after you have contacted the Disclosure Project and had all of your questions answered - if it still suites you at that point.
What does confuse me, Sam, is that you appear to be very skeptical of this issue yet you continue to e-mail me with questions. Most skeptics would not have even responded to the first request they received. I thank you for attempting to be open minded. However, I am not going to try to convince you to believe "my way". I respect your rights to have your own opinions. I also realize at this point, the chances of you covering this issue are slim to none. But just as you were open minded enough to respond to me, I hope that you will be open minded enough to contact the Disclosure Project! They can help you with your questions a great deal more than I.
And as promised, when I hear from the organizations in Europe, I will contact you with their remarks.

Journalist #4 Replies to Monica's Response:
Many people e-mailed me to suggest that I "give up" on this journalist. But, I have not given up on him. And I hope that it is all for the best, in the long run. :)
Thanks for writing me back. As always, it is a pleasure to here from you. I am a skeptic but this is something I would, like most people, like to believe. I have been intrigued with UFOs most of my life. (By the way, he red alien thing comes from a TLC program.) I am just giving the reservations that I have ran into time and time again. The best answers I have ever heard say that the aliens are time travellers which nicely explains why they are similar to us. I am not closed minded to the possibility of aliens (and you should closed minded to the possibility thatthere are not aliens. ) I sometimes feel it requires to much faith - in other people and in the unknown. This is the same problem I have with Christianity. I don't want to fill the voids in my life with nonsense. I think people (whether there is or isn't a God, Jesus, or aliens) cling to these unknowns because they need something to give them hope in there lives. While I may become a believer in God and Aliens it will not be for this reason. Please understand, I am open to anything, but I do not want to be duped. I believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that the universe is brimming with life. Its interstellar travel that I have problem with.
Writing a story about the disclosure project does not require my belief in aliens so I will look into it.

Monica's Response To Journalist #6
Thank you for letting me know. I will forward your message to the person who wrote the letter (although sent from this e-mail address). Craig - Destination2012@aol.com
I have found your previous articles on your site and will post them to my web site tonight, with your web address listed.
Also, I'm sure you are aware of this but if you ever need additional information in the future for stories such as the one requested, the Disclosure Project will help you with information if you e-mail: Derek Garcia email@example.com. Let him know Monica Morris told you to contact him personally.
Breaking The Silence Of UFOs
Hi Craig. Plenty of reporters attended Mr. Greer's DC press conference several years ago & didn't believe "evidence" he presented there was adequate proof of UFO visits. I looked at his website a while ago & didn't see anything conclusive. Has anything new emerged since then?
Why are you so interested in UFOs? Have you seen one or met extraterrestrials? What's your gig? If there are UFOs, why would the government want to cover it up?
Also, is there a local angle on this? If you can PROVE folks from another galaxy are colonizing Ohio, we might be interested.
MONICA MORRIS RESPONDS TO KAY BAILEY HUTCHINSON:
Kay Bailey Hutchinson
United States Senate
Washington, DC 20510-4304
May 17, 2002
Dear Senator Hutchinson:
I sincerely thank you for your response to a fax I sent you last year regarding the Disclosure Project and the presence of extraterrestrial craft in and around Earth. It was nice to hear your thoughts on this issue.
In your letter, dated April 24, 2002, you said: "I agree that we should seek to verify that the most plausible explanation for the evidence present is the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence rather than some other natural phenomenon or anthropogenic phenomenon." I'm very happy to hear that you agree with me (and thousands of others), that this is in fact the most likely scenario.
However, you also stated, "Should credit evidence of extraterrestrial intelligence be discovered, a committee of scientist and other experts should be established to serve as a focal point for continuing analysis of all observational evidence collected in the aftermath of the discovery, and also to provide advice on the release of information to the public." Senator Hutchinson, although I am happy to hear that you feel there should be a committee assigned to study these facts, I feel you might be missing the point.
The Disclosure Project has over 450 governmental witnesses who are willing to testify in congressional hearings and also provide their hard evidence to the court. This large group of individuals does have the evidence to the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence. Therefore, a committee of scientist and other experts along with Senators, such as yourself, should speak with these witnesses to evaluate this massive amount of strong evidence. These individuals are willing to risk their reputations; they have nothing to gain unless they are given the opportunity to speak in a court of law. They should be given this opportunity. If we continue to over look such creditable witnesses, the truth will never be told. And in missing the truth on the issue, we also miss the ability to gain the technology we so desperately need to solve some of the more damaging worldly dilemmas.
You also stated that you support the National Missile Defense System (NMD). I will not attempt, at this time, to change your views on that. I can only ask you to speak with The Disclosure Project, become aware of their evidence, assist them in their efforts to obtain a congressional hearing on the issue, and then reevaluate your thoughts on the NMD. If you still feel the same, at least you have become aware of the complications we face in the future.
Senator Hutchinson, please contact the Disclosure Project. There is nothing to lose in educating yourself on the issue and speaking with these witnesses. Once you have done so, you may strongly support their efforts in receiving Congressional Hearings.
Again, I thank you for your response. If I can be of assistance to you in any way, feel free to contact me.

LETTERS FROM PEOPLE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:
Last year the National Press Club hosted the most well attended conference in
its history. The subject of that conference was the long-standing US
government policy against public disclosure of information relating to
Unidentified Flying Objects.
The sponsor of that event, the Disclosure Project, claims to have identified
hundreds of prominent individuals holding high-level positions in government
and industry who wish to testify under oath before Congress about their
knowledge of, or direct experience with, the UFO presence. Some of those
witnesses spoke openly at last year's conference and made a number of
startling disclosures; unfortunately, while the event was given wide
international coverage, our domestic media essentially ignored it.
As a media producer and documentary journalist I would strongly encourage all
responsible media organizations to inquire openmindedly into this matter, and
to bring their own critical intelligence to bear on it. The public has for
too long been denied an objective evaluation of this issue -- one that
stubbornly refuses to go away despite repeated government denials and the
best efforts of generations of professional skeptics.
This issue may constitute the most intriguing -- and perhaps most important
-- story of our time. Please inform yourselves about it and give it the
exposure it so richly deserves.
Thank you for your time and attention.
I am writing because its about time the media, yours included, cover the current situation in regard to government secrecy and UFOs.
Usually, this subject is not considered "real news", but just merely "humor" or "human interest", or something trivial along those lines.
It is fact, and can be proven, that our planet has been visited by intelligent extraterrestrial craft. Over 200 high ranking military and government witnesses can attest to this fact, and are willing to do so under oath in Congress. These are brave men and women who are willing to violate the national security agreements most of them have signed.
The organizers behind this movement to trigger a Congressional investigation are calling themselves the Disclosure Project, and they are headed by Steven Greer, MD. The "Smoking Gun" information can be retrieved at his web site, www.disclosureproject.org
High ranking officials from the National Reconnaissance Office, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the National Security Agency, CIA, NASA, and KGB are all willing to testify under oath about work they have been involved in, in relation to both extraterrestrial craft *and* beings.
This *is* a "smoking gun" situation and its being ignored by the media, probably because its very complicated... and very strange. But that does NOT make it untrue.
Either these officials are lying... insane... or telling the truth.
No matter which it is... this is newsworthy, isn't it?
As a matter of my own opinion, I feel stories like this should be a higher priority than the manipulative lie-filled press releases from the White House and others that most newspapers, magazines, and TV outlets rely on so much. But then again, paraphrasing a press release is very easy, compared to a complicated story that requires some digging.
Please do what you can do.

Washington Post Article Regarding Disclosure Project
(Some Great Responses Are Below This Article)
Aliens and UFOs: The Likely Scenario
By Joel Achenbach
A group of people who believe in UFOs held a press conference this morning
that established beyond the shadow of a doubt -- that reached levels of
credibility so high as to constitute actual <em>proof</em> -- that there
really do exist people who believe in UFOs.
This was the big day for the Disclosure Project, an attempt to incite the
government to admit that UFOs are piloted by creatures from another world.
The organizer, a Virginia emergency room physician and UFOlogist named
Steven Greer, announced that this was a moment of historic, indeed
"This is the end of the childhood of the human race. It is time for us to
become mature adults among the cosmic civilizations that are out there."
He had arranged an impressive venue, the main ballroom of the National Press
Club. Upwards of a hundred people filled the room, and a phalanx of more
than a dozen TV cameras documented the proceedings. At the front of the
room, in a line, sat the 20 witnesses, most of them gray-haired men who had
retired years ago from the military.
As they took turns at the microphone, it became apparent that this was a
rather quaint event -- a return to the fundamentals of UFOlogy, the
discussion of aerial anomalies. At one point a witness flashed two
black-and-white photos of a saucer-shaped craft. The tales were set, for the
most part, in the Forties, Fifties and Sixties; there was no talk of alien
abductions, or an alien-human hybridization program, or the implantation of
alien fetuses, or any of the extremely intimate Close Encounters of the
Fifth Kind that have dominated the UFO mythology in recent years.
These guys were from the hardware wing of the movement. They'd seen things
in the sky that they couldn't explain. Objects. Lights. Radar blips moving
at extraordinary speed. What they didn't see, in almost every case, were any
Only one witness, Clifford Stone, a retired Army sergeant, professed to
having directly seen an alien. He'd seen bodies at the site of crashed alien
saucers; some aliens were still alive. Asked if he could describe their
appearance, he said, "I could, but it would probably take a whole lot of
time." There are 57 documented alien species, he said, including three types
of grays. Many look just like human beings, he said. Some can touch an
object in a dark room and tell its color, he said.
Ideally the press conference will trigger congressional hearings. Greer says
he has conducted interviews with 400 people with intimate knowledge of the
cover-up of the alien phenomenon. Many are afraid to come forward without
"We know lethal force has been used to keep this secret," Greer said.
In the category of what a scientist would consider evidence, the press
conference presented little, if any. The proceedings featured the Argument
from Authority. The message here was that credible people -- people who
are not kooks -- believe that UFOs contain aliens. These people have good
resumes. Maybe that's not as impressive as someone coming forward with an
actual alien antenna, but it's not trivial.
If nothing else this was an interesting glimpse of human psychology and the
corrosive side-effects of government secrecy. The witnesses were grave, in
some cases emotional -- they've carried these beliefs for decades.
Collectively they've experienced centuries of suspicion. They've seen things
that their superiors brushed aside or covered up.
"Such things do exist. Please believe me," said ret. Air Force Lt. Col.
Charles L. Brown, who once analyzed UFO sightings and saw, just two years
ago, "two inexplicable objects."
Graham Bethune, a retired Navy pilot, told of seeing a glow near Iceland
that turned into a circle of lights with a dome. This was 1951. He's ready
to testify under oath.
Robert Salas, retired Air Force captain, said a "bright, glowing red object"
hovered outside the gate of a nuclear weapons site in Montana in 1967. The
weapons suddenly went into a "no-go" condition. Did the aliens disable them?
The stories keep coming. People make connections. There are people saying
that the Bush administration wants to build a missile defense shield in
order to do battle with the aliens. Who's running this cover-up? Greer said
there are compartmentalized elements of the secret government operation in
multiple intelligence and defense agencies and throughout corporate America.
The bad guys are <em>everywhere</em>.
The anxiety grows: What if everything we've been told by our leaders is a
What if we're all just a bunch of dupes?
How do we KNOW the Apollo astronauts really went to the moon and not just to
a Hollywood back lot?
Scientists who work in the esoteric field of "exobiology" would very much
like to find a single scrap of alien life. They'd like to know if life out
there parallels life on Earth. Does alien life also feature DNA, or is there
some other molecule that fulfills DNA's function? Is it carbon-based? Does
it use oxygen in its metabolism? Did the aliens evolve from simpler life
forms? Does the alien home planet have multiple species that are intelligent
and technological and self-reflective, or are those traits rare in any given
biosphere? To what extent does the history of life on Earth follow a certain
cosmic pattern, and to what extent is it a series of accidents and
Oh . . . sorry. Got off on one of those damn "science" tangents.
We have to decide, as rational people, which is the more likely scenario:
1. Intelligent creatures have piloted spaceships across trillions of miles
in response to our discovery of nuclear weaponry. They hide, except when
they decide to show themselves. Secret forces within our government have
masterfully covered up the alien presence for half a century, duping the
media and the scientific community, although sometimes the cover-up is
imperfect, which is why, at Safeway, you can buy Chef Boyardee Flying
Saucers & Aliens canned pasta. People like Steven Greer, the crusading
emergency room physician, have seen through the lies and are going to help
us reach the era of cosmic brotherhood.
2. Some people believe in things that aren't actually true.
You make the call.
Re Aliens and UFOs: The Likely Scenario
May 10, 2001
It's far easier when you're a journalist isn't it Joel to rubbish rather than investigate.
I'm a retired journo from the UK so I know what I'm talking about.
Did you for just one minute give it a single thought that what the sincere people were talking about at the Disclosure Press Conference could be REAL? Did you consider getting off your butt to find out? Or did you just assume, as you point out at the end of your pitiful piece, that it's all pretty unlikely therefore you won't bother.
I think I know the answer.
And that's exactly why you won't be going down in history as a journo who did anything more than make people laugh - even if it is at the expense of a bunch of grey hairs who you can exploit.
You write "In the category of what a scientist would call evidence, the press conference presented little, if any".
It was a press conference Joel - not a laboratory.
If you go to a press conference after a crime do you get get to look through the microscope at the pollen dust or examine the finger prints?
Steven Greer made it quite clear that he would provide all the evidence you require - all you have to do is ask.
Of course you won't, will you Joel? It's far easier to just joke.
Except that I'm not laughing and neither are millions of others who know the truth that you refuse to write..... but history will.
Journalist Replies To David Haith
We'll see. I've written a lot on the topic, including a book, and eagerly await anyone who will produce something compelling. They SHOULD be here, after all.
Good of you to respond to my angry letter!
I didn't know you had studied the subject and written a book on it, so if I've misjudged you, I'm sorry.
Personally I do think there's a lot of compelling evidence out there.
Have you had this discussion with Steven Greer?
You wrote: "They SHOULD be here, after all."
I'm sorry I don't understand what you mean by this......
That's just the Fermi Paradox -- where are they? They ought to be here. Life happened here, presumably elsewhere, and we can travel in space, so can they, presumably, so where are they?
I'm beginning to feel a little sorry for Joel Achenbach the journalist from
the Washington Post who did a jokey piece about Disclosure. (Actually it
contained some useful information too)
I (David Haith) wrote to him protesting, crop circle investigator Colin
Andrews did the same.
And now I hear a top ranking US scientist Dr Jean-Noel Aubrun has added his
His letter to Achenbach - (permission has been given for its publication) -
Dear Mr. Achenbach:
Being a physicist, and having spent the last 30 years of my
life in the aerospace industry, I must say that I found your article on
the UFO Disclosure conference quite entertaining and amusing, but
sadly wrong and of great disservice to your readers.
You may not be familiar with scientific methods, and this
may be excusable if you have not been trained this way. However it is expected
from you, as a journalist, to understand the procedures by which evidence
is considered in our courts of law. Just a small fraction of those
"gray-haired men who had retired years ago from the military" would have been ample
enough to send someone to the electric chair.
These are credible witnesses, with an impeccable record, people you trusted to defend your life
with theirs. If you truly believe that these people are crazy or just fooled, I
suggest that you never fly in an airplane anymore, because there are large
number of commercial pilots that had close encounters with
I frankly do not understand why you are writing with such a disrespect for
these people, and such a disregard for the facts. Is it because objects in
your newspaper must appear smaller than they really are?
There is a big Universe out there, and America does exist, and it
is 2001, not the Middle Ages any more.
You wrote about "the corrosive side-effects of government secrecy." Indeed.
And you wonder why so many Americans do not trust their Government anymore,
do not have any respect for the laws, and, I am sorry to say, are using
newspapers for wrapping or other unspeakable use?
I hope you reflect on what true journalism is about and its
social responsibility. Please do your homework and investigate all
the facts. You may be surprised.
Dr. Jean-Noel Aubrun
Letter From Crop Circle Researcher Colin Andrews:
Dear Joel UFO Disclosure - Washington Post
I do thank you for taking the trouble to reply to my e-mail.
I don't wish to labor any particular point as I don't
think it will help at this stage.
Just to say that you admitted they had seen some mighty
strange things and I agree with you. Should we not
accept that the caliber of 'strangeness' qualifies a
congressional hearing when on one count the strangeness appeared to
neutralize nuclear missiles and on another occasion, 'beings' which
appeared not human were showing interest in military sites ??
On the basis our law accepts innocence until or unless
proven guilty, we should accept the testimony of these witnesses until
For me we can agree or disagree on the extraterrestrial
theory but accept that apparent 'strangeness' is interfering with important
human functions and security. This should warrant more
openness and more scientific research.
Again, Noel I do thank you for coming back and hope that
what ever your personal views on these events you will report
them at least in a respectful manner in the future.
I understand you have written a book on the subject - what
is it called and is it still in print ?
Best wishes - Colin
Journalist Replies To Colin Andrews (Crop Circle Researcher):
Hi, thanks for that response.
I listened carefully to what they had to say and didn't
hear anything that persuaded me that these
folks had experience an extraterrestrial phenomenon --
though i'll admit that they saw some mighty
strange things. I'm confident that those with a different view will find a
way to advance their theories as they have so ably in the past.
