This all came about when two Bull Terrier owners from Calgary , Marty
Schacht and Val Blackwell met at a Dog Jog to raise
money for the SPCA. Further discussions and visits uncovered a desire to
meet other bull terrier owners and through
acquaintences and e mail friends a list of ten guests was finalized for
the first BT picnic for this group.
The Crazy Calgary Canucks and their Bullies(plus Lethbridge, Leduc and Lacombe)
Preparations were made and the important day finally arrived. The day turned out to be sunny and warm and the location was the lovely green backyard of Val Blackwell's home. Everyone brought picnic snacks and lots to drink and the bullies even had their own private swimming pool. It was quite a sight to see miniatures and standards in many of the color combinations running around like a herd of stampeding cattle or splashing in the cool waters of the swimming pool like playful dolphins with teeth and having a great time.
Lovey, the smallest white mini who happened to be female, kept all the males, big and small under her delicate paw and they were allowed to leave her prescence only when she tired of their company.
Jay, a lovely red and white standard was a most gracious host greeting all his new friends with a slobbery kiss and tussle and generously let all and sundry lap water from his many water bowls.
My miniature bully Rocky happily humped any bull terrier he could get his paws on although Griffin a very good natured male seemed to take the brunt of Rocky's attentions. It seems with friendly, or should I say too friendly bull terriers any bully will do; male or female.
It was quite a chore to get 10 Bt's and owners to pose for a photograph but enclosed is one of our best efforts which I hope you will all enjoy. We call it "The Crazy Calgary Canucks and their bullies( we are not Pit Bulls Thank you very Much)"
WINNER OF THE BEST BEHAVED BULLY WAS JAY BLACKWELL (OUR HOST)
The day ended with everyone having met new friends and we will keep
acquainted by corresponding with each other on the
internet as we come from all over Alberta from North to South. Next year
we want to get a t-shirt and hat made for all
members, try an agility circuit which should be a hoot to watch,
costume dress up contest for the BT's, and a "pick the best bull terrier picture" photography contest.
The bull terriers attending were: "Rocky" Schacht and the Schacht family, "Jay" Blackwell and Val, "Hobbes" Witwicki and Mark and Dorinda, "Rocky" Coons and Barb, "Hannah" Thrower and David,Lynn,Erin, and Ashley, "Griffin" Kitto and James and Janet,
"Lovey" Ow and Margaret, "Cayley" O'Connor and Tom and Judy, "Bailey" Eberhard and Mike, and "Tigger" McFetridge and Robert and Ilene.
As everyone packed away their chairs etc. sleepy but smiling bullies
could be seen crashed out in the back of vehicles already
dreaming of their next fun filled picnic with them as the star
performers.
