              Nebraska's 492 fire districts include an estimated 12,000 volunteers


    Fire Protection
           Fire protection is provided by the Mead 30 member volunteer fire department.            
           The Rural Fire Protection District buys and maintains their own equipment,
           but it is operated by the Mead Volunteer Fire Department.
           We operate out of 1 station that protects residential, commercial, and rural areas.

    16 Members are E.M.T. certified

    Mead's district averages  30 rescue calls per year and   15 fire calls per year

 HISTORY
Urged by L. F. Dewhirst, 14 citizens of Mead on July 9, 1928, organized the Mead volunteer Fire department.
The first officers were
 Alvin Jeppson, president;
 Emerson Erway, secretary-treasurer
 L. F. Dewhirst, fire chief.
