MATAMOUROS. GENEAL

Family of Spanish origin, of which passed Portugal
Juan Mancebo Furtado de Matamoros, noble, warrier, natural notable of the village of Albacete, in Castile. After having given services of value to its king in the wars of the Flandres, Granada and the battle of Lepanto, next to D. João of Austria, he accompanied the Duque of Alba when its army entered in Portugal, in the time of D. Filipe. He took important part in the battle of Alcântara, in 1580, and in 20-III-1586 he belonged to the
garrison of the castle of Lisbon. Generation left that followed the Mata-Mouros nickname.

Its weapons were: quartered: the first one of red, naked arm with a sword of silver in the hand; as of blue, three heads of moor, cut in blood; third of threaded each one in its spear, everything of red,
ece of fishes in visor and made use silver, three flags in ratchet. Ensign: the head of the moor king.
