Contact Lens Complications

Contact lenses are so commonly used we forget that even they can lead to certain problems. We need not worry about them a lot, but knowing them will prompt us to take adequate precautions.

Infection - more common with extended wear, use of tap water for cleaning, wearing lenses with lid infections and in dusty places. Corneal  infections, ulcers, Acanthamoeba keratitis commonly occur.

Vascularisation of cornea - Ingrowth  of blood vessels into the normally avascular cornea.

Allergic papillae on the lid causing irritation and itchiness, commoner with soft lenses.
