Eye muscle anatomy 

You know there are muscles in your arms and legs, but did you know, there are muscle in your eyes too?

MR - Medial Rectus

LR - Lateral Rectus

SR - Superior Rectus

IR - Inferior Rectus

SO - Superior Oblique

IO - Inferior Oblique

Anatomy:

There are 6 muscles attached to the eye. They are named according to their location around the eye. They are -

Medial rectus- lies on the inner side
Lateral rectus- lies on the outer side
Superior rectus- lies above the eye
Inferior rectus- lies below the eye
Superior oblique- lies above and runs obliquely
inferior oblique- lies below and runs obliquely

The contraction and relaxation of these muscles makes the eye move. The commands for movement of the muscles originates in the brain and are carried by the nerves to these muscles.
