UP CWC awards 20 writing fellowships

QUEZON CITY - LIKHAAN: The U.P. Creative Writing Center has awarded 20 fellowships to the 40th UP National Writers' Workshop, which will be held from 1 to 14 April 2002 at Hotel Veneracion (the former Hotel Salome), Baguio City. The workshop theme is "Ang Manunulat Bilang Manggagawa."
    The fellows are" Adam Julian A. David, Faye V. Ilogon, Anna Felicia C. Sanchez and Rachelle Tesoro (fiction in English); Jeffrey M. Espiritu, Ricardo P. Fernando, Vladimeir B. Gonzales and Marlon M. Villegas (fiction in Filipino); Ime Aznar, Jeneen R. Garcia, Francis L. Martinez and Rodrigo V. de la Peña Jr. (poetry in English); Regan R. Maiquez, Beverly W. Siy and Joseph Rosmon M. Tuazon (poetry in Filipino); Josephine Baui (drama); Estelito B. Jacob & Zaldy M. Manrique (poetry in Bikol); and Amibell B. Corpuz (fiction in Iluko) and Ariel S. Tabag (poetry in Iluko).
    The Baguio workshop will be directed by the much-awarded fictionist and poet riel S. Agcaoili. Members of the teaching panel are the CWC Associates, all distinguished writers and professors at the UP: Gemino H. Abad, Virgilio S. Almario, Jose Y. Dalisay Jr., J. Neil C. Garcia, Cristina Pantojha-Hidalgo (UP Creative Writing Center Director), Anton M. Juan Jr., Domingo G. Landicho, Victor E.C. Nadera, Jun Cruz Reyes and Lilia Quindoza Santiago.
    CWC Resident Fellows Jose F. Lacaba, Marra PL. Lanot, Charlson L. Ong, Carla M. Pacis and Rene O. Villanueva will also be part of the teaching panel; as will CWC Advisers Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio and Bienvenido L. Limbera.
    Guest panelist Carlos O. Aureus, who is also the CWC National Fellow for Fiction for 2002-2003, will deliver his fellowship lecture during the Workshop's first week, and Butch Nacasantos of the Philippine Literary ARts Circle (PLAC) will deliver a lecture on Sinai Hamada during the second week, as part of the PLAC Lecture Eseries.
