Grants, scholarships awarded to five writers

QUEZON CITY - Five deserving writers were given grants and scholarships by donors to the Creative Writing Center (CWC) for the first term of SY 2001-2.
   The first Luisa Pedrosa Grant for Waray Literature, a prize worth PhP30,000, was awarded to Professor Victor Sugbo to fund his project of publishing Waray lyric poems in chapbook form.
   The Likhaan Creative Writing Foundation Creative Writing Scholarshops (PhP20,000) have been given for the second year to Arvin Mangolig (Creative Writing graduate student) and Soliman Santos (Malikhaing Pagsulat undergraduate student).
   Oscar Peñones is the first recipient of the first Pedro Sabido Grant for Bikol Literature, an award that carries a PhP20,000 grant for oustanding fictionists and poets who write in Bikol. The Likhaan Creative Writing Foundation will publish his creative manuscript.
   Louise Amante, a Malikhaing Pagsulat undergraduate student, was awarded the Villon-Alcordo Creative Writing Scholarshop, a grant worth PhP7,000 per semester.
   In related news, the CWC is accepting applications for a Creative Writing Scholarshop worth PhP10,000 per semester from an anonymous donor. The scholarship is open to graduate or undergraduate students. Interested parties may contact the CWC.
