OSAMU DAZAI


1909 Born June 19, Kanagi, Aomori prefecture, 6th son of Tane and
Genemon Tsushima; one of the richest landlords in Aomori.
1930 Enters Tokyo University. Attempts a double suicide with
Shimeko Tabe, November 28.
1931 Lives with Hatsuyo Koyama in Tokyo, Feburuary.
1933 First publishing work Gyofukuki in Kaihyo, March; Omoide
in Kaihyo, June and July.
1935 Attempts suicide in Kamakura, March.
1936 Bannen published, June 26.
1937 Attempts a double suicide with Hatsuyo Oyama in Tanigawa
Spa, April.
1939 Marriage of Michiko Ishihara, Fugaku Hyakkei in Buntai,
February and March.
1944 Tsugaru published, November.
1945 Moves to Kanagi, refuge from Tokyo Air Raid; Otogizoshi published,
October.
1946 Returns to Mitaka, Tokyo.
1947 Villon's Wife published, July. The Setting Sun published, November.
1948 Completes No Longer Human , May. Commits a double suicide with Tomie Yamazaki, July 13; found June 19, same day of his birth.
