All Friedrich Wilhelm Karl and Sarah Ann’s children were born in South Africa.  When most of the family moved to Lobatsi in Botswana, Lil and Marie remained in South Africa.  Freda married Frank GREEN in Lobatsi, but while on their way to the coast took ill in the train and was taken off at Grahamstown where she died and is buried.   Ethel married Harry GREENBERG and they farmed in Botswana for some years before moving to South Africa.  The rest of the family, except for Friedrich Wilhelm Karl and Sarah Ann, moved to Rhodesia (Zimbabwe)

I BELIEVE….

I have headed it that as unfortunately I am inclined to believe most things I am told.

When we were young my dear darling brother told me that Jimmie Sinclair (brother of Donald), a well known South African cricketer, hit a ball from the old Wanderers all the way to Cape Town where it bounced on an old man’s head and bounced back again.  I believed it, not knowing where Cape Town was but there is a grain of truth in the story.   The old Wanderers Club bounded the railway station and today is part of the new railway station in Johannesburg.  Jimmie Sinclair hit a ball so hard that it went over the boundary, fell into the truck of a passing train…  some say the train was going to Cape Town and others that it was going to Durban.

Now you know why I say ‘I believe.’
