Activities and Nature

Walking

Kilnsey is an ideal starting point from which to explore the Dales, with a wealth of footpaths around the village. The beautiful walk along ancient Mastiles Lane to Malham is a particular favourite.

The famous Kilnsey Crag

Fishing

There could not be a more ideal base for the fly-fishing addict than Kilnsey Old Hall. Sharpen your skills at Kilnsey Trout Farm, a stones throw from the Hall, before moving on to the river Wharfe, five minutes walk away, to catch wild trout among many other species in the spring-fed waters of the river.

Nature

Bird-watchers, naturalists and flower lovers can all enjoy the unspoiled environment around Kilnsey.

The Trout Farm attracts a variety of wildfowl - wigeon, pochard, shoveler, shelduck, herons and more. Oystercatchers, kingfishers, dippers and goosanders can all be seen on the nearby Wharfe. On the moor tops raven, merlin, peregrine falcon, grouse, curlew and lapwing all breed along with a host of other typical upland species.
