Lt. Richard Cuyler King 1st Battalion Georgia Sharpshooters Co.D
Cuyler was preparing to enter the University of Virginia when Georgia seceded. He enlisted as a private in the "Glynn Guards", a cavalry organization in which each man furnished his own horse and equipment. In 1862 he was appointed by President Davis a lieutenant in Co.D of the 1st Battalion Georgia Sharpshooters, with which he took an active part from the first bombardment of Ft. McAllister until his capture at Nashville on December 16, 1864.
