Daniel Johnson
The Family of DANIEL JOHNSON and REBECCA (CARROLL)
DANIEL W. JOHNSON was born on June 14th, 1814 in South Carolina (probably Edgefield). We do not (yet)know what the W. stood for (although Webster was very popular then). We know he moved to Ozark Alabama approx. age 12 with his parents Jesse & Sarah and at least one sibling, his younger sister Martha Elizabeth ("Patsy") sometime between late 1825 and 1828 (site: Census). His father passed away when he was approx. 20 circa 1834 and he married REBECCA CARROLL around this same time (When we get the exact dates we will, of course, put them here). Daniel lived long enough to see his two oldest sons die in the Civil War and he passed away on March 2nd, 1866. He is buried in the City Cemetary in Ozark, Alabama. His wife Rebecca Carroll was born Aug. 2nd, 1822 in N.C. and died June 20th, 1888 in Ozark, AL.
Known Children of Daniel & Rebecca:
1. WILLIAM DAVID JOHNSON b.April 15,1838. died: unknown. (One indication suggests he was killed at Battle of Stonesboro at Mufreesboro, TN. on or near Jan. 1, 1863, age 25. Never married. Served in the AL 33rd Inf. C.S.A.)

2. LEROY JOHNSON b. May 8th, 1840. died: unknown. (Indications are he died soon after March, 1862 and is listed as having died from "sickness" after enlisting in the 33rd Al Inf., probably with his brother William. Another souce cites he died from a hernia, possibly in Mobile and he may be buried alongside his father in Ozark, AL)

3. JAMES C. JOHNSON b. Nov. 3rd, 1843 in Ozark, AL d. July 24th, 1910 in Florala, AL. Served in the 53rd Al. CSA. He married at least twice and possibly 3 times. (See Bottom Link).

4. FRANCIS MARION "Coot" JOHNSON b. Aug. 24th, 1846 in Ozark, AL. d. April 20th, 1920 in Clear Springs, Fl, near Florala, AL. He married 3 times. (See Link below)
Served in the 57th Al Inf.

5. EDWARD JOHNSON b. March 12, 1849 in Ozark, AL and died Aug. 6th, 1895. He married JOSEPHINE (___) who was born in July, 1858.

6. JESSE JOHNSON born Oct. 28th, 1851 and died Jan. 20th, 1885, age 33. The story is he accidently shot himself at a boarding house run by Mrs. ALLIE GARDNER. No known marriage or children.

7. ANGELENE C. (JOHNSON) ANDREWS born April 14th, 1854. Married MATTHEW M. ANDREWS who was born Oct, 1849. Marriage and Death dates unknown.

8. DANIEL W. JOHNSON, JR. born June 4th, 1856 and married MARY V. (_____). Marriage and death dates unknown.

9. HENRY A.W. JOHNSON b. Feb. 24th, 1859 and d. Feb. 4th, 1942. Married FRANCES EVELYN (SELLERS) b. April 23rd, 1873 and d. March 15th, 1954.

10. SARAH A. (JOHNSON) HOWELL b. July 13th, 1861 and married ROBERT "Bob" A. HOWELL b. April 1860 d. Sept. 24th, 1921.
