Son of Asa Brantley

Enlisted with the Pamilco Rifles (I Company, 4th Infantry Regiment) with brothers and 102 men from Aurora and Beaufort, NC.  Returned to Aurora after the war.
Brantley, William Henry, Private, Musician

Son of Asa Brantley

Musician, Resides in Beaufort County and was by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting in Beaufort County at the age of 22, June 25, 1861 for the war.  Mustered in as Private and appointed Musician (Drummer) prior to September 1, 1861.  Present or accounted for through December 1863, but reported absent without leave on Feb 1864.  No further records
Thomas Henry Brantley

Son of Asa Brantley

Lives in Beaufort Co. and by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting in Beaufort Co. at age 22, June 25,1861 for the war. Admitted to hospital in Richmond, Va May 05,1863 with a gun shot wound to the left shoulder however place and date wounded not reported. Deserted May 28,1863. No further record.

Son of Joshua Bereddy and Patsy Smith Brantley

 

Born in Nash County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Wilson County at age 18, May 25, 1861, for the war.  Mustered in as Private and promoted to Corporal on December 21, 1862. Promoted to Sergeant in March-April, 1863.  Present or accounted for until he died January 24, 1864.  Place and cause of death not reported.  He died at Weldon, close enough to be buried at home.   (Burial in "Brantley Cemetery" in Nash county, photo.)
Brantley, Christopher Sherrod, Corporal (D)

Son of Mary Eliza and Lovette Taylor Brantley

Born in Nash County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Wilson County at age 18, May 25, 1861, for the war.  Mustered in as Private.  Present or accounted for until wounded at Chancellorsville, Virginia, May 3, 1863.  Rejoined the company in July-August, 1863, and was promoted to Corporal on November 30, 1863.  Present or accounted for until he died January 5, 1864.  Place and cause of death not reported. Born in Nash County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Wilson County at age 20, May 25, 1861, for the war.  Present or accounted for until he deserted May 22, 1863.  By 1873 he appeared in Tate County, Mississippi.

Son of Joshua B. and Patsy Smith Brantley

Born in Nash County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Wilson County at age 21, May 25, 1861, for the war.  Present or accounted for until wounded in the thigh at Gains' Mill, Virginia, June 27, 1862.  Rejoined the company in January-February, 1863, and present or accounted for through October, 1864.  Note

Son of Edwin and Susan Parks Brantley

Resided in Nash County and enlisted in Wilson County at age 18, May 25, 1861, for the war.  Present or accounted for until he died in hospital at Lynchburg, Virginia, January 14, 1863 of "variola."  (smallpox)

Son of Edwin and Susan Parks Brantley

 

Resided in Nash County and enlisted at Camp Advance at age 28, June 24, 1861, for the war.  Wounded in the right leg and captured at New Bern on March 14, 1862.  Confined at Fort Columbus, New York Harbor, until exchanged at Aiken's Landing, James River, Virginia, August 5, 1862.  Wounded at Chancellorsville, Va, May 1-4, 1863. Rejoined the company in January-February, 1863, and present and accounted for until October, 1864.  Paroled at Raleigh on May 15, 1865.  Note

Son of Sherwood and Tabitha Brantley

 

B Company  He resided in Franklin County, NC. Enlisted on 6/15/1862 at 34 years old as a private. On 4/11/1862 he mustered into "B" Co. NC 47th Infantry. He died of disease on 7/20/1862 at Goldsboro, NC and is buried there.

Additional information from Mark Ordess: Allen Brantley -  Foster's Raid on Goldsboro - Foster left New Bern on/about 13/14 Dec 1862 with about 10,000 troops - he fought Confederates at Kinston and short of Goldsboro on 15 & 16 Dec

A Company  Resided in Nash county.  May have enlisted in this company June 1864.  No further records.  According to info from AP Brantley he was a shoe maker and he came home with a broken leg.

A Company Resided in Nash county where he enlisted at the age of 19, May 4, 1862 for the war.  Captured at Burgess' Mill, VA October 27, 1864, confined at Pt. Lookout, MD October 31, 1864.  Released at Point Lookout June 23, 1865 after taking the Oath of Allegiance.

A Company Place and date of enlistment not reported.  Captured on or at Burgess' Mill, VA October 27, 1864, confined at Pt. Lookout, MD October 31, 1864.  Paroled at Point Lookout January 17, 1865.  Received at Boulware's Wharf, James River, VA, January 21, 1865 for exchange.

Resided in Nash county where he enlisted at age 23, September 10, 1861.  Present or accounted for until wounded at Malvern Hill, VA July 1, 1862.  Returned to duty at an unspecified date.  Wounded in the abdomen and/or left hip and captured at Kelly's Ford, VA, Nov. 7, 1863.  Hospitalized at Washington, DC November 11, 1863.  Confined at Old Capitol prison, Washington, DC, Dec. 5, 1864.  Transferred to Elmira, NY, Dec. 16, 1864.  Paroled at Elmira on Feb. 9, 1865, and transferred to Boulware's Warf, James River, VA, where he was exchanged on February 20, 1865 and discharged.

Enlisted August 10, 186 (blank on muster roll) at Weldon by Lt. Felter for the war.  At the time of enlistment he was 49 years, 6 months and 2 days old.  He was 5 feet, 10 inches tall with dark complexion, dark hair and "Blk" (sic) eyes.  His occupation was listed as Farmer and he was listed as being born in Nash county, NC.
