Brock Davidson Enterprises Exhaust Installation

P2090010.jpg (58310 bytes) First thing you need to do is remove the old mufflers and the body fairing on both sides.

P2090008.jpg (61839 bytes) P2090009.jpg (61755 bytes) Pics of the factory exhaust still on.

P2090011.jpg (60006 bytes) P2090013.jpg (61425 bytes) Remove support bolts for the radiator, this will give you some extra room to work with.  Then remove the electric fan (this is a good time to install a Muzzy fan).  Remove the exhaust and hanger bolts and take the stock exhaust out by bringing it straight down.  If your bike is not high enough you will never get the factory exhaust off, so if need be, you can cut it in half near the X-Pipe.  This way it can be TIG Welded together easily and kept or sold.

P2090016.jpg (60050 bytes)P2090020.jpg (62786 bytes) P2090018.jpg (61665 bytes) What it looks like with the stock exhaust removed.  As you can see I did it with only a swingarm lift, but this meant I needed to cut the factory exhaust to remove it.

P2090022.jpg (62595 bytes) Since I didn't have the front lifted, I needed to install my exhaust in pieces.  Which made installation VERY easy with only a little WD-40.  Although BDE Instructions state to pre-assemble exhaust and fit it that way.  If possible I would follow their instructions, this is just what I did.  But it was very easy my way.

P2090025.jpg (61822 bytes) P2090024.jpg (62356 bytes) Then I installed the other side and the Y-Pipe that connects them underneath.  At this point I also installed the springs on the four header tubes were they meet the head.

P2090036.jpg (61668 bytes) P2090038.jpg (59965 bytes) The next piece just slid right in as per the instructions.  This is the final pipe that will actually go into the Muffler.

P2090042.jpg (60763 bytes) Now all you do is slide on the muffler and use the included bracket and mount it to the factory exhaust hanger.  At this point make sure everything is a good fit and install the remaining springs.  You will want to check for clearance with your Oil-Cooler lines as they are close.  I adjusted mine a little bit to get the required clearance, but the instructions are clear on this.  Now reinstall the radiator support bolts, electric fan and anything else you removed during disassembly (except the body).  Finally clean the the exhaust pipes before starting.  Start the bike with the body off, this way you can see everything as it warms up, just to make sure you did everything OK.  The exhaust will smoke for a little while due to the WD-40 used and it will turn a golden cooler.  Don't worry this is all normal.  Once you see everything is fine, let the exhaust cool and reinstall the body.  Your final product should look like this.

MY OPINION:

What can I say I LOVE this exhaust!!!!!!!  It's like having a completely new bike, this exhaust made such a big difference!  I even removed the Ivan TRE, partly because the BDE instructions say too and because it has so much more low end torque now that I don't need it.  I am talking 2nd gear power wheelies, not cracking the throttle at 7,000 rpms to pop the front up.  I almost looped it over in a 2nd gear power wheelie the first day I rode it.  I am so excited!!!  I will be taking the bike to the track in the beginning of April, I will post my time slips at that time.

The install was very easy and straight forward.  Just take your time and it's nothing.  The biggest pain was removing the factory exhaust bolts that hold on the header and reinstalling the new bolts.  But only because there isn't much room to work.  Everything else is very easy.

Thanks for everything Brock!!!
