USCGC Munro (WHEC-724)

The USCGC Munro is a 378 foot Hamilton Class High Endurance Cutter and are the largest cutters operated by the Coast Guard other than Ice Breakers. These ships are open-ocean, long range cutters utilized in a multi-purpose role. The Munro has a crew of 178, a top speed of 28 knots, and a typical patrol is 90-120 days. The Munro was commissioned in 1971 and underwent a modernization program from 1986-1989. Home port is Alameda, CA. The patch shows the ship with a sailing vessel's outline in the background. The Medal of Honor is on the bottom. The ship is named after Douglas Munro, who was the Coast Guard's only WWII Medal of Honor recipient.
