Shawn Flannigan Ted Seifman Me with S.T.A.G.E. Board Members: Shawn and Ted
The first time I attended one of the annual S.T.A.G.E. concerts, it was in 1998 and it was to surprise David Burnham. That was my wonderful husband's idea - and it was a great one. I ended up seeing the show twice that year, and somehow managed to surprise David both times! (See photo!) The weekend became a Ballfest Event and the show was fantastic, we all had a great time, met some of the stars and planned to go again the next year.
We were able to attend again in both 1999 and 2000 and look forward to many, many more concerts in the future. We were told this year that there are plans in the works to tour the show nationally - so hopefully that will soon become a reality.
There are usually upwards of 30 or so stars of radio, TV, stage and movies in the cast - the shows are always recorded and become available on CD about six months after the concerts.
We usually meet someplace for dinner, see the show, and depending on the time, may go for dessert afterwards, but after the first year, we have always been invited to the cast party after the show, and have always gotten preferential seating no matter the size of our group. The tickets are reasonably priced with part of the money becoming an income tax deduction, and there is always a wonderful silent auction as well.
The money raised goes to support AIDS related causes in the southern California area including Project Angel Food, which prepares upwards of 800 meals each day for shut-in AIDS victims. Jeff has worked there occasionally to help with preparations and Merrill has been able to join in a time or two when we have been in the area. Jeff also does his pro-bono work helping to reunite the estranged families of AIDS patients, as well as preparing wills or just sitting with someone during their final hours.
