Ballfesting in Seattle with the Scarlet Pimpernel - Continued William Paul Michals with me, Leslie & Richard Sy Facunda Posted to the BallfestNews list on April 4, 2000
To continue....
Dinner over, we practiced a little more
hugging and said goodnight to Stu & Marilyn and Richard & Leslie,
and returned to the Paramount Theatre.
For those of you who have seen Douglas Sills
perform, no description is necessary, and for the rest of you, no
description is possible. Words simply cannot adequately or
accurately describe this extremely talented, devastatingly gorgeous,
witty, charming and totally awesome man. His performance, as
always, was total perfection and then some. (Okay Lillian, back me
up on this, please!)
I do think the entire building was shaking from
all the applause when that final curtain came down!
As you might expect by now, our next stop was
the stage door, where there was another fairly large crowd awaiting this marvelous
cast. We got big hugs from William again, and both Matts, said
hi and bravos to a few others, the crowd thinned slightly, and finally
Douglas came out, looking really tired and we almost felt badly about having
stayed ~ but not for long!
There were people waiting who
obviously knew him, then he spoke to the group next to us at length,
posed for some pics and then it was our turn. I am sure he
didn't really remember us from two years ago, although he asked if
he had met us in NYC and said the memories were beginning to come
back, although, that may very well just have been his way of
being gracious. He spoke to everyone, we took a picture of him
with Samantha, who was totally overjoyed to have finally actually met the
Scarlet Pimpernel! I told
him that Richard and Leslie would be at the show the next night, and were
honeymooning from Manila. He said that was a long way to come to
see a show! We talked about Matt's brilliant performance earlier in
the day. I know we talked for awhile, I forgot everything I was
planning to tell him, have no idea what I did say, or what he said
either. He asked who was going to take a picture of me with him,
and of course M was just waiting to be asked, so that done, I gave him a
hug for Lillian and Marilyn and Andy and Jo Ann and Joni and a few others
and then, leaving him among his other fans, we took Rachel home, and
started the long uneventful drive home, now realizing it was an hour
later than our clock said, thanks to Daylight Savings time.
Samantha spent the rest of the night at our
house, M took her home in the morning and picked up Richard and Leslie at
the ferry landing! That begins Part Three of our Ballfest Weekend.
