THELMA AND LOUISE WERE ADOPTED AUGUST 5, 2009!
All packed up and in their travel cage (which is twice as big as the cage they were found in - their permanent cage in their new home is HUGE) heading off for their new furever home.
Dinner To Go:
The shelter staff came in one morning to find a cage containing Thelma and Louise, apparently dumped there during the night. The cage was way too small for both of them, there was no food and the water bottle was green with slimy mold. A note on the top said they were no longer able to care for these 1 1/2 year old sisters. Apparently not.
Because the shelter is not equipped to deal with animals other than dogs and cats, they requested our assistance so we brought Thelma and Louise to a foster home where they have a huge living space, a constant supply of pellets, hay and clean water and fresh produce daily. These two girls are bonded and will need to be adopted together. Although they look identical, we have noticed a difference in their eyes which allows us to determine who is Thelma (the braver one) and who is Louise (the more tentative one).
Where the cage was found at the shelter:
In foster care they are set up in a kiddie pool with an exercise pen around it to give them more space:
The girls had no place to snuggle up in with their previous cage but now they have a tiki hut that they love! (It will go with them when they get adopted.)
They don't seem to be used to being handled (or they just don't know their foster mom well enough yet) so we are hand feeding them to gain their trust.
