WILMA WAS ADOPTED JANUARY 9, 2009!
Wilma wasn’t actually a "planned" foster dog. She was at the shelter and it just so happened we were able to get her into the spay/neuter clinic to be spayed, with the intention of her going back to the shelter afterwards. (Companion Critters provides spay/neuter, vaccinations and microchips for all of the animals in that shelter.) But with the holidays, nobody from the shelter was available to pick Wilma up from the clinic and take her back. Her foster mom went to pick her up but Wilma never made it back to the shelter. At the spay/neuter clinic, everyone raved about what a sweet dog Wilma was and of course, after looking into that adorable little face and seeing that tail never stop wagging, straight to the foster home she went! How could we let her recuperate on newspaper in a cage when she could have a cushy, soft bed in a foster home instead? As luck would have it another foster dog was adopted the following day so a spot had opened up anyway.
Wilma has the coloring and markings of a Brittany (a natural redhead) and the structure of a whippet. We, of course, cannot guarantee that is what she is, but it’s our best guess based on her appearance. She is about 1 1/2 years old and weighs 23 pounds fully grown. Wilma is very people-friendly and once you pet her, she is ready to go home with you. She does, however, prefer to be an only dog. She tolerates the other dogs in her foster home as long as they leave her alone. It is obvious that other dogs are really not her thing. She’d rather have human attention. So far she has done well with cats but it is early on so we will have to reassess as she settles in.
